I have spoken to the person who has given me this Census material. This, for Clanwilliam, is going to be a one-off special, rare gift from the genealogy gods as the rest of the census for Ireland was destroyed. What we have here was transcribed for some purpose into a book and kept with some very unrelated things. It is somehow being related to the Spring and Summer Assizes, so possibly used in connection with lawsuits on rates. Or something. So, nothing for any other barony or county unless something else like this shows up. God bless the "keepers" of the world. Now if my family tree from 900 AD to 1800 would only come out of someone's closet. Janet
Janet, If a woman's name is listed as a tenant, would that indicate she was a widow? Would single women, at this time, be tenants in their own right? I'm a little unclear on the tenancy rules. Thank you for all this input! My Connors/O'Connor family emigrated from Tipperary RC Parish (unknown where exactly they lived) and from my research, not all emigrated or at least went to Troy NY. One was Thomas, baptized in 1847 Tipperary RC parish. I wish I could prove that the one found on Spital Lane in Tipperary Town, Knockanrawley, was mine! Ok Janet that is fine is there anywhere I could get Ardcrony .....without paying a fortune Keep up the good work I am in Australia, my ancestors came from Tipp to Tasmania in 1800's . We here in Aus have so many CD's and records to look up just about everything Tasmania the great majority done by people like yourself who compile them. It makes our research so much easier, coupled with Archives and Trove. It would be great for something like that to be done in Ireland for all Counties ...maybe one day Warm wishes Kesa -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Janet Crawford Sent: Friday, 24 February 2012 8:27 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [COTIPPERARY] 1870/71 Census Thanks, Kesa. Judie, I don't know but I will try to find out. I am just grateful to have 1870 as it so very neatly falls between Griffiths and the 1900's censuses. The New York Times 10 June 1886 A DISCARDED LOVER’S RASH ACT Albany, New York, June 9 Miles Dacia, a young man from County Tipperary, Ireland, attempted to commit suicide on Monday by jumping into the Erie Canal, near Cohoes. He said he came from Ireland two weeks ago at the instance of Honora Halligan, a bright Irish girl, who left her home in Ireland a year ago. The two kept up a correspondence for six months, and then letters ceased. Miles write letter after letter, but go no reply. One day a neighbour received a letter from America, which announced the coming marriage of Miss Halligan. Dacia then took passage on a White Star steamer and lost no time on finding Honora, who glibly told him that the report was true. At first the young man tried to drown his sorrow in liquor, and then attempted suicide. He was kindly cared for by friends until this morning, when he was sent to New York.
