Hello List, Perhaps someone may enlighten me.My ancestor left Tipperary Ireland 1842 , Ship record shows her as Julia Franklin but all records in N S Wales Show her as Johanna, some of her children and grand children were named Johanna. I guess my question is - are these two names interchangeable or is Julia a nickname for Johanna. Thank you in advance. Michael. -- I am using the free version of SPAMfighter. Hang on a bit, Agnes, as this is in a strange order and your people may show up yet. It really doesn't have a title in the name column to go by. I think they were transcribed from something else to this and they probably knew what they were looking at. Yes, some of these places were very small. Remember, we have just come out of the Famine, An Gorta Mor, the Great Hunger, when so many died and the emigration has been going on for quite some time now. The population of these places is falling fast. Andy, It's not a pdf., it's 125 pages. I was given a copy as it is my Donoghue family. Denis Fogarty(Tipperary) married Elizabeth Hurley in Aghadoe, their son Denis married "Julia Pad O'Donoghue, one of the O'Donoghue Curraig's. It chronicles Donoghue's not Fogarty's. They only got a mention because Denis(b. 13 APR 1823) married Julia Donoghue. The authors knew nothing about the 2 siblings of Denis, a Daniel and Bessie. Supposedly Denis/Liz Hurley died young and the 2 boys were brought up by Herbert's, although they were told it was the Herbert's of Muckross, they doubt that was the case. They think the 2 Fogarty boys were brought up by the Herberts of Cahernane, however nothing is known about Daniel. Denis and Julia Fogarty Donoghue lived in Kilgarrive, Kilgarvan. All their children either went to Worcester or New York, eventually Denis and Julia ended up in NY where they died. That's the only other data I have on them. Hi Janet, Thanks a million for doing these. I had Donnells/ O'Donnells in Derrycloney at the time but I don't see that listed. I'm sure they were nearby somewhere... 2 questions: Do the listings show only the 'head of household?' Why haven't I ever heard of the vast majority of these townlands, despite researching in Tipp for over 10 years? Are they so small that they might represent just a few houses?
