At his funeral, I learned that his grandfather or great-grandfather fought in the Civil War. Being an extremely curious soul with a major fascination with the whole civil war and the surrounding era, I've decided to search out more info! Unfortunately, this is proving to be a very difficult task. My immediate family is NOT close at all, and those who do keep in contact have no knowledge of much family history at all. Here's what I have so far: My great-uncle's name was ALTON COSTLEY DOB: 8/19/1902 DOD: 7/31/2000. He was married to MARGARET COSTLEY DOB: 6/28/1902, DOD: 3/23/1996. I do not know whether or not my great-great-great grandfather C.W. Veteran was my uncle's paternal or maternal grandfather. I've found several Costleys on Civil War databases, but have no way of linking them to my uncle. :( It would appear most logical to me to assume that he fought for the confederacy, since it appears my uncle's family has been in GA for a long time (deep roots). If it helps any, my father's name is Edgar Melville Costley, my mother's name is Nancy Joan [Leahy] Costley. Any info anyone could provide would be great. Please email me at Jeffskat@yahoo.com. THANKS ALL! :)
