Surnames: Costley; Leahy Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/0AQ.2ACEB/49 Message Board Post: Hello, all! My great-uncle died last summer. At his funeral, I learned that his grandfather or great-grandfather fought in the Civil War. Being an extremely curious soul with a major fascination with the whole civil war and the surrounding era, I've decided to search out more info! Unfortunately, this is proving to be a very difficult task. My immediate family is NOT close at all, and those who do keep in contact have no knowledge of much family history at all. Here's what I have so far: My great-uncle's name was ALTON COSTLEY DOB: 8/19/1902 DOD: 7/31/2000. He was married to MARGARET COSTLEY DOB: 6/28/1902, DOD: 3/23/1996. I do not know whether or not my great-great-great grandfather C.W. Veteran was my uncle's paternal or maternal grandfather. I've found several Costleys on Civil War databases, but have no way of linking them to my uncle. :( It would appear most logical to me to assume that he fought for the confederacy, since it appears my uncle's family has been in GA for a long time (deep roots). If it helps any, my father's name is Edgar Melville Costley, my mother's name is Nancy Joan [Leahy] Costley. Any info anyone could provide would be great. Please email me at Jeffskat@yahoo.com. THANKS ALL! :)

    1. Costley Query
    2. My paternal grandmother was Mary Elizabeth Costley Jones. Recently I found a card in her things from Virgil and Roberta Costley of Ogden, Utah. The card was postmarked March 11, 1968. They had apparently been researching Costleys and thanked my grandmother for the information that she sent them. I would like to get in touch with them to find out what info my grandmother gave them on her Costley line, since I do not have much myself. I have not tried mailing a letter to the address yet, to see if it is still current. I will, but I thought first I would check to see if they subscribe to this mailing list or see if someone knows how to contact them. Thank you, Elizabeth Jones Meadows Lizziefaye@aol.com

    1. Costley Query
    2. Hello, my name is Elizabeth Jones Meadows. I'm new to this mailing list. After doing genealogy for about a year now, I have been unable to trace my Costley line any farther than my Great Grandfather William Augusta Costley, so I'm hoping that someone out there will have a link. He was born June 28, 1858 in Georgia and married Martha Emeline Perry from Coweta Co. GA in 1884. He died on January 10, 1930 and is buried in Durant, OK. They had six children: Clytie, William Perry, Eddie Louise, Clifford E., Stirman Lamar, and my grandmother Mary Elizabeth. All of the children except the oldest were born in or around Ellis County, TX. I believe that William Augusta's father was also William and was also born in GA, but that is all I have. I would appreciate any help that you can give. Thank you Elizabeth Lizziefaye@aol.com
