from an excellent source and from another list.. BUYER BEWARE A website called Family Discovery is charging $43.00 to 59.00 for "unlimited" access to their website. The only problem is that their website is a conglomoration of links to OTHER PEOPLE'S free websites. Links include peoples personal web pages, GenWEb pages [like cemeteries, census], and other free genealogy pages. They don't really have any data of their own although they claim to. All of what they have you can find FREE. I received this from one of the listserves I belong to and I just wanted you to know about them.
=================================================================== QUICK TIP =================================================================== I have successfully read illegible photocopies of old wills by using the following method: Scan the document in black and white, then load the image into your photo-manipulation software. Finally, make a negative of the image (this function is sometimes found on the "effects" menu.) Impossible-to-read bits suddenly appear quite legibly. thanks to Jerry
Good evening, We have 34 new photos added to the Colorado USGenWeb photos project. Maryellen, we would appreciate a link to the Colorado USGenWeb Photo Project from Conejos County. I know the submitters would appreciate it as would we. A special thank you goes to Cecelia Weber, Rebecca Herzig, Pat Sanchez Rau, Shirley Dubuque, Louise Adams & Carol Clark for sharing these photos with us. We only have "" 3 "" more counties to go and the whole state will have photos in each county. This is wonderful!!!! Lets all dig through our photos and get the last three counties listed with photos. How about it gang? I would like to personally thank all who have visited the Colorado photos project and have sent their thanks for making it all come together. We have 3 counties that do not have photos. If any of you have Colorado Photos of your ancestors, first businesses, schools, churches, homesteads, old towns, ghost towns etc., you would like to share, we would love to add them to the site. Several family connections have all ready been made through this wonderful project. Many counties have more than one page of photos. Don't forget to use the links at the bottom of the county pages to view all of the photos. Delta, Huerfano & Las Animas have new pages listed. The new photos can be viewed by visiting the Colorado USGenWeb Photos Project at http://www.rootsweb.com/~cophotos/index.htm Look for the counties with the gold star for new additions. Again, we have counties that have no photos. If you have any of your ancestors from those counties, please help us reach our goal by adding every county on the map with photos. We are all most there! Good evening to you all, Rootsweb had major problems with a server and had a serious crash. Many mailing lists were affected. A lot of RootsWeb mail lists were effected from this crash. Some mailing lists may have unsubscribed current subscribers and also may have resubscribed people who unsubscribed themselves in the last week or two. If you get this notice check the mailing list name at the top and make sure you are subscribed to that one. If you don't hear from some of your mailing lists then perhaps you got lost in the transferr of data and should resubscribe. If you are getting messages from the lists you are on no harm will be done by your resubscription. If you unsubcribed in the last week and get this message please unsubscribe again. I understand this has been fixed. But just in case it has not, it may take awhile to get things back the way they were so please bear with the staff at RootsWeb. Remember you can always resubscribe your self to the lists you were on, with no harm done at all. Thank you, Addie Listowner

Source: An American Legion Post newsletter in Maryland "The Veterans Administration has reported discovering 10 million duplicates of 20th Century Military Records. These records were thought to have been destroyed in a 1973 fire which wiped out most Army records from 1912 to 1960 and most Air Force records from 1947 to 1964. Dear List, I am searching for a virtual needle in a haystack, but I know the answer is out there somewhere! My ggrandfather , David GOLDBERG, left his wife and two young boys in Chicago in 1894 to go to Colorado. He died there in about October of that same year. I only have this little bit to go on after receiving a 100 year old admission form from the orphanage that his son (my grandfather) was placed in. It is on this form dated March 1895 that his wife states that he "died in Colorado 6 months ago." I'm sure they were living in basic poverty, and daily life was a struggle. They were both Russian immigrants. I am leaning toward him coming out there to mine, but this is just a guess. I have no idea how he died. I would much welcome any suggestions as to where to begin, and also ask that if anyone has access to any death indexes from your various counties, or know of any "potter's field" areas in cemeteries that you might check them for me if you have time. I'm quite sure his family could not afford to have him sent back to Chicago, and I have been unable to find him there. I think I'm going to have to attack this by finding out where is ISN'T, to find out where he IS. If anyone thinks I am going about this the wrong (or long) way, please let me know! Thanks very much for hearing my story........ Regards, Donna in Minnesota Obit Vol, Crow Wing County larose@emily.net
