Hi David Thank you for that. I was aware that many men went overseas and left their wives at home and then married another in another country. I have not found that in my ancestors sofar but had thought of that with Benjamin. However, what puzzled me was that for 20 years she still said she was married which made me think that she was hearing from him and possibly receiving money. Perhaps I will never know the answer to this one especially as there are a number of Benjamin Rowes of a similar age so it is difficult to definitely identify the one I am looking for.
