The West Briton (Friday, 03 Oct 1856) reported the following marriage: "At the Registrar's Office, Penzance, on the 19th ult., Mr. James WARD to Mrs. Caroline FARMER, both of Digey, St. Ives..." The bride was actually Mrs. Caroline TANNER, widow of James TANNER (died 1850). She was Caroline WILLIAMS (born 1822 Phillack, d/o John WILLIAMS & Sally RUSSELL) when she married shoemaker James TANNER (b.ca. 1821, s/o James TANNER & Ann WILLIAMS) at St. Ives on 18 Feb 1845. Caroline was left with three children when her first husband died in 1850. Her marriage to James WARD, a Royal Army Gunner (1861) born at Leicester, was registered at Penzance during 3Q1856.
