Thanks to everyone who replied with the record for John and Ada PROUT. I was hoping for one step further than the attestation record looking for a reason why he wasn't on the battalion's record of those who came over to England. Something for the future when Canada has digitised the records, hopefully. Patience, patience! I am searching Military records for Canada and am interested in Canada, Soldiers of the First World War, 1914-1918, Soldier, Veteran & Prisoner Rolls & Lists. There is a record for a John PROUT with Other person Ada PROUT. I am hoping this relates to John PROUT who left Cornwall in 1913 heading to Quebec, and in 1916 was in Paris, Ontario when he applied to join the Canadian Expeditionary Force. His attestation paper number is 270060 showing he joined the 215th Battalion but for some reason he didn?t appear on the CEF lists of those who came over to England in 1917 to help in the war effort here. I?m trying to find out what happened to him. The process of digitalizing the complete service records is underway, and thousands come online weekly. If I remember correctly, projected completion is some time this winter. When John's service record is scanned and put online, you will see a link to the right of the image of the attestation papers from which you can download the record. One of the questions asked on discharge is the intended address.
