    3. Many thanks to all who answered my plea for help and especially to David and Dawn for their very prompt reply which was of great help. On the Ellis Island transcript he had put his destination as New Mexico. However, when I looked up the1900 Census I found my Gt Grandfather in Delamar, Nevada working as a Day Labourer in the Gold Field. When reading about that place on Wikipedia, it made sense to me as it was dry mining and not underground. Although he had entered his occupation as a Miner he was in fact a Farmer so it was more likely that he would have been dry mining rather than underground like the majority of Cornish Miners. All the details connect except for how long he had been married which was 5 years less than he had been, but that didn't worry me too much as in my experience most people do not know how long they have been married. When I looked at the entry on Ancestry someone had added a note that the name Thomas Henry Banfield should be Thomas W Banfield. Looking at the original it was very difficult to see if it is a W or an H! To be sure I have searched the English Cenus and Births for a Thomas W Banfield and did not find one that was likely, so was more sure that this was my Gt.Grandfather. I have not unfortunately been able to find him yet on a Passenger list on his way back home. I have looked at his Death Certificate and he died in Gwinear on 23 November 1900 of Chronic Intestinal Nepheritis and Cardiac failure. Once again, many thanks for all the help I really appreciated it as I hadn't a clue as to where he would have gone to from Ellis Island.
