    3. There are a number of cemeteries in Nevada County (which is where Grass Valley is located), and some of them have been listed online with the names of people buried there. You are more likely to find a grave or burial for a death in 1885 than a death record. The California death index on Ancestry does not go back that far. I have found people from Grass Valley using "Find A Grave" as well as google searches for cemetery listings. For immigration to the USA, I always start with New York, remembering that people arrived at many other ports, as well, including Boston, Philadelphia, and New Orleans. Many Cornish also went to Canada first and then to the USA. For immigration to New York prior to Ellis Island, search the records for Castle Garden.
