Many thanks to Mike, Doug and Clare for their replies. I've been searching to see if I ever photographed this headstone, but I'm afraid not. I think the error could have been a mistranscription, but more likely a stonemason, carving 1843 and 1853 for the two death dates, instead of 1843 and 1851. Anyway, I'm sure James was my upright 4GGU, who was worthy of universal respect. I'm proud of him. Just for the record, James married Mary PARSONS and his brother, John, (my 4GGF) married Mary's sister, Thomasin PARSONS.
