The death of JAMES HAWTON seems to have been registered during the Dec. Quarter 1851 (Launceston, 9. 109) which confirms the newspaper year of death. I would suggest the transcript of the headstone is incorrect - it should be 1851 instead of 1853. A mistake in transcribing headstones of this age is not unusual - they get pretty worn. The difference in one year in his age is probably not unusual. Mike, Redruth.
