I have come across cases where Methodist chapels have all their records for 200 years happily gathering dust in a cupboard and nobody has any idea what is there. I imagine this is equally true for other denominations as well and if anyone had the time or the energy to search around quantities of material could be found. But who is going to do it? In my experience many non-conformist churches did not keep registers as such, use being made of ordinary exercise books and the like and when they were full they were frequently destroyed or just placed in a drawer and forgotten or taken home by one of the stewards. The Bible Christians were formed in 1815 by William Bryant or O'Bryan so it is unlikely there would be any registers before this date most Bible Christians prior to this were likely to be some other branch of Methodism probably Wesleyan. The Cornwall Record Office holds the Wesleyan Baptism Registers for Camelford dating from 1801 and for Liskeard from 1834 and Penzance from 1805; apart from St. Austell Primative Methodist Circuit from 1829 all the other registers are from the the 1830s. I was hoping if his brother and sister were listed on the website Peter's baptism would be there too. However, it's good to know that this is a work in progress and I will check back from time to time to see if his name appears. Where would the Non-Conformist registers be kept? Are they available to the public if I have the chance to visit?
