To expand a little on what John Sly said: The Royal Flying Corps (RFC) was formed in 1912 and consisted of a military wing and a naval wing. It also had a flying school and an aircraft factory. However the naval wing seperated in 1914 and became the Royal Naval Air Service (RNAS). In 1918 the RFC and the RNAS were amalgamated to become the RAF. Tony
