    3. Hi all, I am trying to pin down the date Samuel Uren/Yourn migrated to Australia. His son was born in 1859 and he wasn't with his wife on the 1861 Census. I thought it was him arriving on "Hero" in 1863, but if that was the case, then where was he in 1861?? Can anyone find him on the 1861 most likely in Cornwall, please? Marg A in Oz.

    3. Hi Marg As Uren and variants is a common name can you let us know Samuel year of Birth, the Parish and his Wife's name as this will help to pin him down. You also mentioned the 1861 Census but is that England or Oz. 3. How silly of me Mary! Late at night ! Sam Uren was chr 1837 in Chacewater. He married Mary Ann Oliver on 5 March 1857. 2 children Lydia b March Q 1858 (died 3/1865) and Samuel George b Dec Q 1859 were probably born Chacewater So Sam had to be in Chacewater up until early 1859 and their next child was born in Australia in 1869. Wife and son Sam migrated Oct 1868 alone. So Sam migrated between early 1859 and 1868. He was a copper miner at Wheal Daniel in Chacewater. 1861 Census Piece: RG9/1561 Place: Truro-Cornwall Enumeration District: 17 Civil Parish: Kenwyn Ecclesiastical Parish: St. Pauls Folio: 77 Page: 25 Schedule: 139 Address: 139 Chacewater Surname First name(s) Rel Status Sex Age Occupation Where Born Remarks UREN Mary Ann Head M F 26 Miners Wife Cornwall - Kenwyn UREN Ann Sislaw U F 30 - Cornwall - Kenwyn - I haven't identified her as yet. 3. Hi Marg Sorry, no luck finding your Samuel sofar. However, if your Samuel was the one who arrived in 1863 then he arrived from New Zealand, so perhaps that is where you need to look. Other than that, try South Africa as someone else suggested. 3. Many Cornishmen went to South Africa for a while and then moved on to Australia. This could be what happened to him.
