The earliest mention I have is Daniel HILL sawyer age 26 marrying Mary WILLIAMS [22] dau. of Richard & Ann in 1838. I am descended from the third child of that marriage, another Daniel HILL. The first Daniel changed his name to Thomas on at least two occasions. On his first child's birth cert. {Elizabeth 1838) he is Daniel, in the Christening record he is Thomas. 1841 Census he is Daniel, 1851 he is Thomas. 1861 he is not recorded, 1871 he is not recorded but Mary calls herself a sawyers wife. In 1881 Mary is recorded as a widow. I have no record of him after 1851. The second Daniel (my Great Grandfather) born 1842, married Christiana THOMAS dau of William & Elizabeth in 1867. Her birth & christening have never been found. They had three children, two died of measles & scarlet fever, the third was Richard (my grandfather). Daniel & Christiana disappeared from St Just after the 1871 census and I have never located them in twenty years of research (still hoping). Richard was brought up by his grandmother Mary (WILLIAMS) and that is why the line continued in St Just. The first Daniel gave his birth place as Chedder on the 1851 census but no record of his christening there. He gave his fathers (another Daniel) occupation as Mason on his wedding cert. There was a Thomas HILL aged 56 who died in 1863 cause of death "burnt", was he one of yours ? Any info. greatly appreciated. Tom Born: Sennen Hopefully will die in St Just. ----- Original Message ----- From: Stanley Bolitho To: tphill@btinternet.com Sent: Sunday, June 13, 2010 8:46 PM Subject: Hill family Hello Tom, I note you mention that you are interested in St. Just and Sennen. It so happens I am descended from Thomas Hill who lived in St. Just from 1719 to 1790. He married Elizabeth Adams a widow in 1753 Any connection? Cheers Horton Bolitho in Penzance. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ No virus found in this incoming message.
