    3. Hello Judy,   It is the Redruth baptism that I am wondering about.    I think I have found your William and Mary C Eddy on the 1851 census.   William is 28 born Lelant.  Is this the correct family?   Looking for William in the 1851 census, I found John Rowe, wife Alice, with a son William aged 7 born Lelant, living at Croft, Ludgvan which seems to fit.   John Rowe's age is 56 and his birthplace is Gulval.    There are two baptisms at Gulval which are possibles: 13 Jun 1784 John ROWE son of John 13 Aug 1786 John ROWE son of William   Regards, Joy  ________________________________ From: Judy Jarve <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Tuesday, 11 December 2012, 5:14 Subject: Re: [CORNISH-GEN] William ROWE mystery Hello again, I went back to my old records and went through everything. However, both the St. Ives marriage register and the civil marriage registration show the names as James THOMPSON and Mary Faull WILLIAMS. With due allowance for spelling of the groom's surname, those records agree with the report appearing the same day in The Royal Cornwall Gazette (Friday, 12 Dec 1856): "At St. Ives, Mr. James THOMSON, to Miss Mary Faull WILLIAMS." 3. Hi Judy, Can you provide us with the names of the children of William and Susannah Rowe. Naming patterns can be very helpful. His parents,  William and Susannah ROWE married on 16 Dec 1775 in Redruth. I have documentation for all of the above. Now - I cannot find where William Sr. was from. I also found who I think is their children and found a Francis ROWE (1777-1780); Richard ROWE (1779); Francis ROWE (1784); and Elizabeth ROWE (3 Feb 1799). All were born in Redruth Parish. I have been suspecting for a long time that Susannah was a MICHELL  and her parents was either Henry  MICHELL and Ursula(Usilly) PASCOE or Susannah is the female born 09 Nov 1754 in Redruth, to Francis MICHELL and Mary (?); all from Redruth. I also suspect that William ROWE is the son of Phillip ROWE(1711 and ELizabeth PEARCE of Camborne.  It seems that that William fits in. but I am not sure at this point. Why wouldn't William not name one of his children after his father or grandfather? I have searched for all William ROWES from around that area and found most had married other women or the dates or places were not candidates for my William because of the parishes in which they lived. Does anyone have any information to help me figure out this problem? Any help would be appreciated. 3. Hello Tony, The date was given to me by a friend in Cornwall who went down to Truro to look at the records for me. I am aware of the Philip Rowe family from Camborne and thought maybe he might be it. Since he married another, I guess that he's not the one.LOL. Odd that I didn't persue that line because it just didn't feel right (Cornish trait in me?) In William Junior's info, It said that his mother WAS Susannah Rowe. 3. Hi Rowena, Thank you for answering. The only name the I am sure of is of his son: William ROWE (documented) born on 18 Aug, 1776 in Redruth Parish. This William married a Jane or Jenefer GRIBBLE on 3 Feb 1799 in The Redruth St Uny Church. She was from Illogan Parish. Some names were given to me by a friend in Cornwall but I'm not sure because of the difference in names: Francis Rowe 1777-1780; Richard Rowe 1779; Francis Rowe 1784; Frank Rowe 1794 and Elizabeth Rowe 1799 (all in Redruth Parish). This is my brick wall. I hope someone can help me over it. 3. May I suggest that if anyone cannot find a marriage in Cornwall that they get the Exeter Marriage License's on film from LDS. There can be up to 2-3 Cornish people slipping over to Exeter on each page for a License as there are Devon and elsewhere folk. Each Film covers certain time periods, with indexes, some indexes are at the front of the film, some at the back, and others in the middle. Most have a place name where they are from if not from Devon. A lot married in Exeter on the same day. Even though the bride is from somewhere and the groom elsewhere, it does not always eventuate that they married in their own parish. Sometimes they married in a parish half way. 3. Hi Judy Yet more on this! You say "I have been suspecting for a long time that Susannah was a MICHELL". Have you looked on the Cornwall OPC site? The marriage in 1775 is there (Susannah Mitchell). In Redruth these two burials look extremely promising: William ROWE buried 2 Jun 1818, aged 69 [therefore born about 1749]; Susanna ROWE buried 9 Jan 1819, aged 61 [therefore born about 1758]. best wishes Tony Tony Bennett Cheshire, UK

    3. Hi again Judy A further thought. There is a William ROWE, son of Richard and Mary, baptised on 2 Dec 1749 at Redruth. Have you eliminated him from your enquiries? NB the name Richard, one of William and Susanna's children. best wishes Tony Tony Bennett Cheshire, UK

    3. Hi Judy I have William ROWE, son of Philip, baptised 24 May 1752 in Camborne, but married to Ann HOCKING (18 Jul 1778 Camborne). One of their sons was a Philip. Of course this marriage may conceivably not be right. I note that in your email you actually give the birth date 24 May 1752 for William senior. This is the same as the baptism date above - I'm wondering where you got that, if you don't know where William senior came from. best wishes Tony Bennett Cheshire, UK

    2. Hello, I came across a record of lawsuit, whose parties included Rowe in St. Columb Major. Actually, beginning in 1571 christening records, there is a goodly plenty of the surname and its variants, such as RAW, ROE, ROO, RO, and ROE, as well as ROWE. There seems to have been a marriage between the ROWE and TOME families. I thought that this may be help, if you did not know of these already. And perhaps it is not your line. Regards, Steade
