I have certificates on as many of his family as I have been able so far to get, on all of my grandads certificates it states he was working on the Great Western Railway so of course I took that on leaving home he immediately joined the work force on the railway. About a week ago I was going through my files and was reading more fully each certificate as I came to my aunty Susan's I was shocked to read grandad gave his occupation as being in the army. My aunty was born 1920 so there is only a span of 20 years between grandads own birth and his eldest childs. I went through the military listings at the National Archives in England but could not locate anything on a Redvers Charles Tonkin in the military I felt he may have served in WW1. Can anyone advise me what to do as by 1930 the time of his forth and youngest child's birth grandad was living at 26 Walton Way, Acton W3 where he remained until he immigrated to Australia. On aunty Nora's certificate and my mothers and her brothers certificates he gives his occupation as "Locomotive Driver." Any help would be greatly appreciated as I would like to find more out about my grandad. Also I was told I would not be able to get copies of his war records if they exist and that I would not be able to get his railway records is this correct. Thank you in advance Sincerely Hazel E.
