    3. Hi Jan - He might be a Cornish Hobbit if..... * he has extra-large feet, with tufts of hair on the toes, and in some groups, fur all over the tops of their feet - and very hardy, thick soles (they seldom if ever wear shoes) * he's curious, and into everything, but finds strangers quite suspicious - and can't understand people who travel * loves the earth, and tending plantings - and thinks his patch of earth the very best * he has LOTS of energy, unless he's one of the slower ones * he has excellent hearing and sharp eyesight * has an ability to be rather unnoticeable at times; good at getting around the edges of rooms so to speak * long, skillful fingers (good for extracting gorgeous, shiny, pretty things that need a home..) * likes Saffron cakes, and other delicacies such as Star Gazey Pie * knows all the words to "Up Camborne Hill" and "Trelawney" * loves to wear bright colours, especially on a dull day * likes to play with big, shiny engines, especially up and down hills, or in mines * a love of laughter, jests, games, and celebrations - so they'd be at the party, making and keeping it lively! •A particular love for the smoking of tobacco in small clay pipes (now you KNOW they're Cornish - c. Finnes described in her Travel book how she found all the women, children, and men smoking tobacco from small clay pipes. So check out the males with whom you're acquainted carefully; if one has three or more of these characteristics, he just might be a Cornish Hobbit!! Julianna (oh yes, they live in houses in the ground, burrows, or nowadays, an earth-home!) found this about their size - "if you consider the hobbits' diminutive stature as a sign not of a lack of courage or steadfastness, but rather as a lack of towering ambition and desire, their heroic role makes perfect sense." ---------------------------------------- > I have wondered > if Bilbo Baggins is Cornish. He's a little short guy and doesn't he have > something to do with "Middle Earth"? Sounds like a mine to me...I really > need to read those books............... > Jan in San Diego
