    2. Hello, Listers, The following article was posted in the 15 Dec 1856 WB and CA and transcribed in the issue #334 of the 12 Dec 2012 Cornish Digest, along with a lengthy article. Does anyone have any info on the Withiel girl’s parentage? And is anyone familiar with her unusual first name? I haven’t seen it before. ”STEALING FROM A DRAPER'S SHOP - On Saturday last before the Mayor of Truro, and Messrs. Stokes, Nankivell, and PADDON, magistrates, a milliner called TRYPHOSA WITHIEL, living in Truro, was charged with stealing a quantity of ribbons, value 13s., the property of Messrs. John and Henry BARRETT, drapers, West-bridge, Truro. ..... etc.” Thanks for any help sks can provide. Merry Christmas, Meli

    3. Hi Meli, In 1841 census, the family is transcribed as WITHELL at Mill Street, Padstow. William (shipwright, aged 30-34) & Elizabeth (25-29) WITHELL and children Tryphena (8), Tryphosa (3), and Elizabeth (1). a 15-19 year old servant called Harriot GILLARD was with them. She's likely Elizabeth's younger sister. She married William STRIBLEY in the September quarter of 1845. In 1851, the family was in Park Cottage, St. Clement. William (42) & Elizabeth (38) WITHELL with children Tryphosa (14), Elizabeth (11), Mary (8), William (6), Johanna (4) and Maria (2). The TIBBIT family was lodging with them. Tryphena WITHIEL, aged 16, Milliner, born in Padstow was visiting in the STRIBLEY household at 7 New Street, Padstow. William (28) & Harriet (27) STRIBLEY with children Mary (5), Betsy (3) and William (3 months). Cornwall OPC database shows baptisms of these children of William & Elizabeth WITHIEL in Padstow: Tryphena (March 6, 1833), Tryphena (June 23, 1835). Non-conformist records show the baptism of these children of William & Mary at St. Columb Wesleyan Methodist Circuit: 3 week old Mary WITHIEL on July 25, 1842; Louisa WITHAL (born Feb.22, 1849) on April 2, 1849. On January 19, 1852 their son Samuel Thomas WITHELL (born Dec.11, 1851) was baptised Truro, Wesleyan-Methodist Circuit. OPC database shows the marriage of William WITHELL & Elizabeth GILLARD (of Gwennap) in Padstow on December 24, 1832. One of the witnesses was Samuel WITHELL. OPC database burials for Padstow show Trephosa WITHIEL, aged 1 on Sept.19, 1836; Louisa WITHIEL, aged 3 months on August 6, 1841. Tryphena WITHELL was a witness to the marriage of sister Elizabeth WITHELL to William Henry BENNEY in St Columb Minor on August 9, 1860. FreeBMD shows birth registration of Tryphosa WITHELL in the September quarter of 1837, registration district of St. Columb, Vol.9, p.38 I don't know if Tryphosa was transported for her sins, but she ended up in Australia where she married Elisha TRESCOWTHICK in 1861. Here is a link to one of the many TRESCOWTHICK family trees which will turn up if you google the surname and Tryphosa. http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/t/r/e/David-J-Trescowthick/WEBSITE-0001/UHP-0196.html Joanne Toronto, Canada ----- Original Message ----- From: <melibob4@texasbb.com> To: <CORNISH@rootsweb.com> Cc: <cornish-gen-request@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, December 15, 2012 11:55 AM Subject: [CORNISH] Withiel > Hello, Listers, > > The following article was posted in the 15 Dec 1856 WB and CA and > transcribed in the issue #334 of the 12 Dec 2012 Cornish Digest, along > with a lengthy article.
