Meli, The return fare is probably so high because you are trying to book your journey too soon! If you are too early in booking your fare they quote the maximum price and if you are foolish enough to accept it then .... Wait a little until the quoted fare drops to a reasonable price. Note that the return fare may only be a pound or so more than the single - check it out. By the way - you are not by any chance a 'senior citizen'? (Over 60) If so you can buy a senior citizen railcard for £28 and save 1/3 on the fare(s). Do the maths. Good luck.
