How very convenient! So at last I can organise transport, docking facilities, 'Notices to (Virtual) Shipping' and also collect some Harbour Dues from visitors (such as all of you), which should help pay for the alterations and extensions to Godrevy. So my first task must be to organise transport for Mistress Agnes, who is desirous to travel from Devon to Godrevy. I appreciate that Mistress Agnes lives in the 17th Century, but please Mistress, bring yourself forward a tad to the mid Nineteenth, because Godrevy wasn't built until 1859 and you'll have a barren and chilly sojourn on the island if you wait a hundred years! So I've had a word with my friends at the Hayle Steam Packet Company, and they have offered the facilities of their beautiful new ship, the 'Cornubia' built in 1858 (indeed, the hull and engines being built just a few miles away by the world famous Harvey's of Hayle). This modern steam ship plies between Bristol and Hayle, and can arrange to pick you up from the picture-book harbour at Ilfracombe, and drop you off in my newly-constructed virtual harbour at Godrevy. As for Mistress Jan's concern (ably and sincerely expressed) that the disco ball may confuse the shipping, I have to report that the local fishermen are already mazed by the sparkling skins of the mackerel fish, whilst the ever-present overhead lights of the multiplicity of trans-atlantic aircraft (which all head directly overhead to and from Heathrow Airport) and the onshore headlights of the night-time dog-walkers have rendered the night sky such a miasma of contagious light that the sparkling of Jan's mirror ball will hardly be noticed! But, Mistress Jan, fear not, I shall instruct my Clerk (Mistress Anna) to prepare a Virtual Notice to Shipping, warning them of the ever-present danger of grounding on 'The Stones Reef' and to ignore the flashing red and white lights of Jan's mirror ball, and concentrate instead on the flashing red and white lights of the modern Godrevy warning light. Please note, I accept no liability for any accident due to any confusion so caused. John C.
