    3. Hi Hazel, Welcome, and thankyou for your intriguing post! I'm struggling a bit, because I'm not aware of a Wherry Island, although Wherrytown seems to fit the location for the TONKIN families quite well (most of the references seem to be for the Newlyn or Penzance area, and Wherrytown was between the two. There was a unique mine, driven out in the sea at low tide, and this is the main claim to fame. Wherrytown was effectively destroyed by a storm in 1962, and the site is now a park and lake, and a supermarket! But among those letters must be some that would be of interest for Christmas! Please pick out the best of them, and somehow add it to what I hope will be the festivities on the List! As for the others, I'm sure that the Cornish Records Office or the Cornish Studies Library would be interested in these letters. This is the link for depositing records with the Cornish Studies Library: http://www.cornwall.gov.uk/default.aspx?page=25295 Very best, and thanks in anticipation!
