Often the reason is that there is a historic family, social and cultural connection between the two towns.  Redruth has several twins. One town that Redruth is connected to is Real del Monte in Hidalgo State in Mexico.  Several years ago Redruth officially twinned with this ‘Cornish hot spot’. A group of people have now  joined together to form the Redruth Real del Monte Twinning Association. I’m sure that many Cornish, wherever their family may have now settled, had a relationship with the extraordinary Cornwall / Mexico connection that continues with vigour to this day.
