    3. Hi Listers, I have discovered some interesting information on my great grandfather's brother William John WELCH b. 1876 Portloe. My great grandfather was George Merrifield WELCH b. 1869 Portloe. These two brothers married two sisters: William m. Emily TILLER in 1899, and George married Carrie TILLER in 1892. William WELCH lived in Ranelagh Rd St. Austell with his family and worked as a plumbers apprentice. According to the website of a descendant of his (whom I have been unable to contact), William later moved to Basingstoke and worked as a gardener. He married Kate Beatrice BANKS at the registry office in Portsmouth in Nov 1904, although the marriage certificate seems to be 'largely a work of fiction' according to the website. Their daughter Amy Gertrude Elizabeth WELCH was born in Jan 1905. William was living in Basingstoke in the 1911 census , and it looks like he did indeed hook up with Kate BANKS and they had a daughter Amy Gertrude Elizabeth WELCH, as I found her birth and it gave William as the father, but did not give the mother's first name. However, according to an aunt of mine, William was living at Bodmin Rd in St. Austell with his wife Emily in the 1940s (next door to George & Carrie), as my aunt would often visit them after school (St. Austell Grammar School). Of course they would have been in their 70s at that time. I am curious to get more details! Did William and Emily have any children? Did William and Kate actually go through a wedding ceremony? did they have other children? Any information would be most welcome! Greetings from beautiful sunny snow-covered Ontario....
