Good morning everyone This morning i received an email from a distant relative in Cornwall to say that she had received Glenda's email of apology and also my initial complaint.. I'm not sure if Jane Rodda is on the List or not as we mainly correspond through Facebook or direct email. Glad to hear it is being looked into. Pity these smart people don't use their expertise in more useful ways. Cheers Pat
Good morning everyone This morning I reeived an email from a distant relation in Cornwall to say that she had received Glenda's email of apology and also my initial complaint. My cousin, Jane Rodda, is not on the Cornish list as far as I know but I have sent a message to find out whether or not this is so. We mainly correspond via Facebook or direct email. Glad to hear it is being dealt with. What a pity these clever people can't use their knowledge in a more helpful way. Pat

I had a whole family with the same middle name for a few generations, girls and boys including my mother and her siblings. I was told a story that if these children married someone with a certain name they would get a lot of money. We'll that wasn't true. After I started genealogy and found that it was my 3rd great grandmother's maiden name. Lets just say that it was easier to find them as the last name was Symons. That is what I thought too, Jane. Anything that does't look legit. I immediately delete. I just don't like to think someone is using our Cornish Lists for their nefarious deeds. Hullo everyone Tonight I received two messages from a Glenda Rowe which look sus. to me. I have also been receiving emails about tracing records, apparently of police offenders. They are coming through one of the Cornish lists - has anyone else had this problem? I delete everything but must say I don't like the trend. Cheers Pat

I had a suspicious e-mail from Glenda Too - but not knowing it was spam I chided her for sending nonsense in an e-mail. Glenda - I hope you read this - Sorry! I think someone has hijacked her e-mail account. What you have to do Glenda is change your password with you service provider. Pat: I have received the Glenda Rowe msgs, too, and thought they were suspicious. I don't believe I have received anything about police offenders, but I don't read every word of things not pertinent. After several weeks of trying to get my transcriptions of the West Briton and Cornwall Advertiser and failing, I have finally managed it -albeit one with a (SPAM) message on one. I have had my end checked, Listmon has checked also, but it is still there. Hopefully the one I sent today from a different email address-News for first week of April 1856 - will appear without the dreaded word - and I will be able to complete all of April 56 without a hitch. If not, I guess it is back to the drawing board. Isabel. West Briton Transcribers.
Folks, It is critically important that in your normal email routine you do NOT open ANY attachments or click URLS unless they are from a trusted source and even then, be careful. A particularly nasty virus is out where an email comes from a legitimate source with nothing but an URL in the body text. Most of us would send something like that with a description of the site. The URLS are for untrustworthy or unwholesome web sites. This email is the result of someone who's email has been hijacked. Unfortunately, sometimes these messages come to our lists through subscribers who don't know their emails have been hacked as happened today on the CORNISH list. The Rootsweb SPAM filters are getting pretty good at flagging and stopping these emails but some get through. As Listmom this is what I do when it happens: 1) Immediately put the person on "moderate" and attempt to let them know they've been hijacked. They don't "see" the sent messages, so they often don't believe it. 2) Initiate the removal of the SPAM message from the archives. 3) Monitor the person's messages until there are no more virus emails, then restore their status. What you should do: 1) Do NOT click on URL. Simply delete the message. 2) Do NOT report or flag the email as SPAM. Rootsweb will take care of that. (With AOL, and some other ISPs, if you do that you are immediately, and I mean immediately, unsubbed by the listserv. 3) Do contact the person privately if you like, to let them know. 4) Do NOT forward the email intact to anyone else. If you want to forward it to me or the infected person, delete the URL from your reply. 5) Do NOT repost the message to the list or reply on the list. *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* Yvonne Bowers Listmom/Webmom CORNISH, CORNISH-GEN, CA-CORNISH http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~yvonne/cornishlib/cornishlib.htm
