I remember visiting his house as a kid and walking from there down a path to the private beach shared with his neighbors. We would eat huckleberries on the way down and dig for clams on the beach. There was a small island/rock you could walk out to at low tide. He liked to smoke tobacco in a pipe and had a half wine barrel with goldfish in it on the porch. I don't remember his girlfriend's name, but I do remember her being nice. I'm not sure if he moved to Whidbey Island after his divorce or not until after he retired.
