Author: venusthesecond Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.corlew/134.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi Tom, The basics that I get from several pages from "We Were Here - The Corlew Family Genealogy" by William and Viola Corlew are: The are several court cases (1697/1698)residing in the county court house of Yorktown, VA that mention Edward Corlew by the name CORLEW. The name Corlew was spelled creatively often in those early years, even with the same person. There's is no record of his marriage except for his will. In it, "Edward Corlew of the Parish of Yorkhampton in the County of York" mentions 3 sons: Christopher, John, and Edward. He also mentions his daughters Elizabeth Wooten and Sarah. ...and, of course, his beloved wife, Katherine. He signed his will on 23 Dec 1728 and it was admitted to record on 15 Dec 1731. Katherine's maiden name was derived from Robert Curtis' will, which you already know about. Good Luck in your research! Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: TomACaulley Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.corlew/134/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I see several researchers have Katherine Curtis, daughter of Robert Curtis who died ca 1716 in York Co, VA, married to Edward Corlew. Does anyone have documentation of this marriage? I have found a will for Robert Curtis where he names his daughter Katherine CORLEY and grandson John CORLEY, which seems to contradict the stated marriage with Edward CORLEW. I found no records of any CORLEWS in or near YORK Co, VA. Any Ideas? I welcom any documentation anyone can provide. After I got it home I realized that it contains a wealth of information as well as about 30 photos!!! Yes, 30 !!. It even has names written in the album for the pictures that are missing. I think the written information would be as accurate as a family bible. Rather than keep the album I would prefer it be shared with family members that would value this find. I would certainly hope that anyone finding such information from my family tree would try to contact someone in my family. I would only ask what I paid for it plus shipping. please contact me at: wylie8689@aol.com Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: LorraineCarrington43 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.corlew/2.53/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Pliny Livingston was born illegitimately to Larkin P. Livingston and Mary Kingsbury. Larkin lived in Wallingford, Vt for awhile, having an uncle of the same name live in Mt. Holly. Larkin is listed as a member of the band there. He left Vermont and moved to New Hampshire. His full name was Larkin Pliny Livingston. In NH he was sometimes referred to as Larkin Livingston and on one record he was called Pliny Livingston. Mary later married a Clark Livermore and moved from Jamaica, VT. The son Pliny Livingston's full name was Pliny W. Livingston. He married Delia Corlew. There is a book about the Corlews and her ancestry can be easily traced. Pliny is buried in Fort Ann NY under the name of John P. Livingston all because someone called him "Texas Jack". All kinds of family lore says he knew Buffalo Bill Cody and Bronco Charlie Miller. The "Texas Jack" that was with these old cowboys was Jack Omahundro from Virginia and was not Pliny Livingston. Since Pliny raised horses in Fort Ann, NY and Buffalo Bill had a wild west show, I am going to guess that someone from the show bought horses from Pliny and from that came all kinds of family tales. The Wild West Show did come to Albany, NY and Bronco Charlie Miller settled in Glens Falls, NY. Therefore it seems probably that the horses were involved. It is sad that he is buried under a name other than his own. His birth name was: Pliny W. Livingston, born Jamaica, Vermont. His birth record can be found at the Town Clerk's Office in Jamaica, Vermont. On a deed to some land he sold in Vt while living in Fort Ann, he clearly signs his name as Pliny W. Livingston. Author: cbunte Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.corlew/4.1.2.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Ansel and Grace Underwood were the children of Elsie Maud Keeney and A. G. Underwood. Elsie and A. G. were married 28 Apr 1901 in Webb City, Jasper Co., Missouri. They either divorced or A. G. died because Elsie (Maud) married Edwin L. Corlew 16 Dec 1907 in Webb City. Elsie Maud Keeney, born Aug 1884, was the first of of ten children of William R. Keeney and Mary Ellen Noel. The other children were Percy Alfred, Perry A(dolph), Virgie B., Pansy, Bessie, William Glen, Hazel Nadine, Violet Mae, and Vernon Ray. Vernon and Violet were twins, as were Pansy and Bessie. Pansy and Bessie were born about 1894 and died 1895. Percy died in 1914, about two months after his father. Perry was still alive in 1917 when he signed his draft registration. Violet died in 1963, Bill in 1971, Hazel sometime in the 70's, and Vernon in 1975. Mary Ellen died 30 Jul 1909, and the younger children were raised by cousins. I have been trying to locate some descendants of the older children, without much luck. Do you have any idea when Maud died? I have more information on her ancestry if you're interested. I'd also like to know who Edwin's third wife was, when they married, and when they died. It might be easier for you just to email me directly at cbunte@rockymtncable.com.
