    3. Hello Cathy, Answers about barns... both barns are now gone. The PL barn was burnt down by a vindictive fellow named Eric Clubine who had a grudge against the owner of the ranch Si Berthelson (I believe that happened around 1957 or 1958) Eric was sent to prison for the deed. Several horses perished in the fire. I need to look up the actual articles in the local papers in Meeker the next time I visit there. I grew up in that area and attended high school in Meeker. The Square S Barn was taken down by the Fish and Game who now own that ranch. I find it interesting that those two barns were the only large barns on Piceance Creek. Piceance Creek and Yellow Creek can be found on map of northwestern Colorado in Rio Blanco County, both of these streams feed into the White River the river that flows by Meeker Colorado. What was your interest in visiting the cemetery at Meeker? Many of the early pioneers of Piceance are buried there. Looking forward to hearing more from you. You have made my afternoon. I was born in Rifle and currently reside in Silt, so I am familiar with the area also and can't wait to get up there and check it out. I will definately check out the homestead claim. I just hadn't gotten to that point yet and am not sure how to do it. If you could just tell me where to go, I would be so appreciative! This definately sounds like the right people and time-frame. Albert and Minerva were my great-grandparents. Do you know anything about them? My stepfather was also raised in the area (his mother was a Morrow)and I'm sure he could take me right to the place, now that we know! Thank you!! Piceance Creek is very familar to me. I am currently writing a book about this area. The Pearson place that I knew of was located on Fawn Creek a tributary of Black Sulfur which flows into Piceance Creek. My Mom and I used to drive to by that ranch often because we liked to go to the "Indian Fort" that was located up the road from the ranch. It was a lovely place with a spring and the ranch house was built on the eastern hillside above the spring. You may find the homestead claim under the name of AlbertE. Pearson. Please feel free to call me at 908-876-1956 and I will tell you how to do this. It's really easy and free. There are two claims under that name. One filed 2/26/1915 and another 7/25/1914. Does that sound like the right time frame? Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: Leah_M Surnames: Golden, Moore, Walden, Hanson Classification: obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.colorado.counties.rioblanco/402/mb.ashx Message Board Post: More a death report than an obituary. I would like to hear from anyone who has information about this woman or her husband. I believe he married a great aunt, Lana R. (Moore) Walden Hanson, between 1892 and 1900. "Rocky Mountain News" (Denver, Colorado), Thursday, 18 February 1892, p. 3 Into The River. Mrs. Golden of Meeker Drowns Herself. Special to The News. Meeker, Colo., Feb. 11.--A quarrel occurred last night between Hank Golden of this town and his wife, and as a consequence it was this morning reported that Mrs. Golden had committed suicide by drowning in the White river. A search revealed the fact that none of her clothing had been removed, while tracks which were hers were found leading down to a deep hole in the river, on the bank of which they abruptly stopped. Mrs. Golden was known to be troubled with fits of despondency, amounting almost to madness, and it is supposed that the quarrel led to one of these, during the prevalence of which she has made away with herself. Active and organized search is being made for her, and the river is being dragged down stream in hopes of recovering the body, but up [to] the present without any satisfactory result.
