Hi, none of you know me as of yet, due to the fact my computer crashed 4 weeks ago, and have been trying my hardest to load all the data I lost back on to my computer and trying to catch up, i just joined this mailing list, and have not posted as of yet. I plan to in the future when I'm caught up. When my PC crashed, I was devestated, and still am devestated at what I lost. When I asked a technical person I know, he rid the virus with me, he then sent me an email to send to everyone in my address book to tell them, they had been infected and how to rid of the virus. The virus is real, so I did what he said, but he didn't know anything about rootsweb mailing lists and I emailed everyone, unware that I should have contact my list administrator first instead of worrying scaring so many. Being a novice at the computer I failed to realize the alarm and drama it would cause and apologize for my ignorance. I just wanted everyone to know that I sent the virus unaware but also to provide a soloution. I didn't realize mailing lists were not included due to Rootsweb excellent protection. I made an honest mistake. I got the virus by my best friend who asked me for some advice. When I opened her attachment it was her resume. I called her the next day, and told her I edited the resume, she said she didn't send it. When she opened her computer she had the virus. The virus, without you knowing attaches itself to your address book, and emails in your inbox. It sends those contacts an email from the folder "my documents". A friend or someone that knows you, would open the attachment and would get infected without you even knowing. This Mcafee's web site describing what the virus does: http://www.mcafee.com/anti-virus/viruses/sircam/default.asp?cid=2360 here is the site on how to get rid of it: http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/[email protected] No one on the mailing list is infected as far as I know, but take heed and read about the virus because it makes itself appear very ligit. It came from someone that has you in their address book. Sorry for the confustion I just did what I was told and apologize for any convenience. Lisa
