Thanks for posting the photo. These tracks are the lines that run from behind the Vail Hotel, behind what was the Auditorium (other side of the street from the Vail,) directly next to what was the Masonic building (or some similar title) on the Vail side of the street that runs from the track and then goes to the front of the Vail where is splits. As I was growing up in Pueblo, Union Ave. was noted for it's bars and low rent housing (rooms)and was dotted with small businesses. Both Union Ave. and Sante Fe Dr., running uphill to the westerly direction, had big bridges crossing over the Union Depot train station (not very close to the area where this photo was taken)which was a large, bustling train depot at one time and the Arkansas River (parallel to the depot tracks at that point.) Union goes up to the Mesa Junction area and Sante Fe goes up to the Bessemer district (near what was the CF&I steel plant.) Union and Sante Fe run nearly parallel to each other. The Union Station was not that close to the Vail Hotel. It would be a hefty walk from the station to the Hotel. If you need details of the location of the Vail, just email me and I'll look up the intersection for you on a Pueblo map. In the bottom left corner is written "Union Ave. at Santa Fe R.R.". One building directly along side the railroad tracks is demolished. On the other side of the street are buildings with signs that read 'Keene & Baker Furniture', 'The Newton', 'Economy Clothing Co.'. Around the corner must be 'The Vail'. You can see the lettered sign from behind, extending above the building. Is this Pueblo? Are there other photos of the downtown area I could view for comparison? Thanks, Chris Penning chrispenning@mindspring.com

When I looked at the site you enclosed in your message, I also found this article: RHODES, FRED - Death News Article - at Pueblo, Colo., Aug. 20, was denied the privilege of taking morphine and cocaine while serving out a thirty day sentence in the city jail, dies two hours after being released this afternoon, when he took an overdose of morphine. He was in jail for petty theft, claimed he would never survive without his morphine. City physician ordered he not be allowed to use drugs during his time in jail. Rhodes was arrest a month ago for stealing a garden hose. This he sold for 25 cents to buy drugs. RMN 08/21/1911 Page 10 This Fred may be the brother that was accidently shot in the face on a hunting trip as a kid. According to what my grandfather wrote about him, he never fully recovered from this would. He had to have several surgeries and always seemed to have to wear a bandage around his head and jaw. So that would explain the need for morphine. He must have suffered a lot of pain and probably became addicted to morphine. Thanks for sending this to me. Every little bit helps. I live in Texas so it is very difficult for me to get my hands on these kinds of records. If you come across any more data, please send it my way. Also, anything on Burr Flag Sanborn would be nice as well. Thanks, Lu-Ann

Surnames: Foster Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/DZ.2ADE/426 Message Board Post: Levi Walter Foster had three children by a woman whose name I am seeking. The children were Charles, Mabel and Eva. They were all born between 1890 and 1900. At least one of them, possibly all, was known to have been born in Pueblo. The family story is that their mother was swept away in a flood, and that Levi, unable to raise them alone, put them up for adoption. Mabel grew up in Gunnison CO. Levi moved to Hebron, Nebraska, married Pansy Johnson, and had eight or ten more children. My grandfather was one of those children. Does anyone know of any lesser floods that happened between 1895 and 1901? And does anyone know if informaiton about adoptions is available to persons not directly involved? Thanks very much!
