Lisa, To my knowledge, I am not related to COPELANDs from Laurens, SC -- but I just may not have found a link yet. My gr-gr-gr grandfather Ripley COPELAND was born in Chatham Co, NC and moved to Sumter SC (via Chesterfield County where his brother Aaron remained). I think RIPLEY was the surname of a female ancestor (but not sure) that was handed down. Similar to my middle name (HUDSON) being my grandmother's maiden name. Are you perhaps related to Mason Langston Copeland of Laurens County, SC? He married a distant cousin of mine, Sarah Ball abt. 1903. Mason was born in SC 26 May 1862 and died 03 Sept. 1944 and is buried in the Laurens City Cemetery, Laurens, South Carolina. Sarah's parents were Beaufort Watts Ball and Eliza Watts-Ball. Her brother, William Watts Ball, was a very well known, outspoken Managing Editor of the Charleston "News and Courier". Something else caught my attention... William Watts Ball's daughter, Katherine, married Clements Ripley. Together, they were very popular writers from the late 1920's to late 1950's. Let me know if any of this is familiar to you.
