On the back of the replica of the Copeland spoon, it states, in part: ............."the mark of the maker reads.............JOSEPH COPELAND/1675/CHUCKATUCK'. The marking dates the year Joseph began his business & where he did so. Joseph later moved to Jamestown where he was caretaker of the statehouse from 1688-91. There's no more information on the package I purchased from the Yorktown gift shop. It's significance is it is the oldest dated piece of American-made pewter in existence. Unfortunately, his family tree is not included in the package............ Carole Lannom <clannom@fuse.net> wrote: I know, have seen and have a replica of the 'Copeland Spoon' at Jamestown, VA. Could someone on the list tell me exactly which Joseph Copeland this is, his parents, spouse, children, etc. I am descended from Col. Stephen Calvin Copeland/Sarah Jane Townsend and his father, Joseph Copeland/Sarah Seaharn. Thank you so much.
