Karen, I am a descendant of a William Moore who had a brother, Hugh Moore. In researching my William, I obtained the Rev. War pension papers of Alexander Copeland of Spartanburg, SC & Rutherford Co., NC (Alexander served with the Moores) and I seem to recall that he said that he came from Ireland. His father was Charles Copeland of York Co., SC. Alexander had children James, Charles, William, Margaret & Elizabeth, but could have had a brother named John. I can't find the pension at this time, as when I was leaving my home before Katrina hit, I hid all my important papers and I haven't unpacked them, yet, as I have been cleaning out my house for the past 3 months. When I do find the papers, I will let you know what it says and offer you a copy. Do you know the name of the Moores who intermarried with the Copelands as you mentioned? My Moore line susposedly came from County Antrim, Ireland, which is Northern Ireland. I have a DNA match in Ireland and one in Scotland with the DNA of my Moore cousin. Also aboard this ship was a William Moore, whose descendants intermarried with the Copeland family some years later, possibly a coincidence, but maybe not. Also, I have long been tracking James Russell Copeland, father of Demetrius Colvin Copeland. James Russell says in a census, 1880 I think, that he was born in TN. I came across something the other day that mentioned a Demetrius Copeland who would have been of the right age to be James Russell's brother in Overton Co TN. Does anyone know anything about the old Demetrius from TN? It is an unusual name. Thanks, Karen Rice
I don't think our William Moores are the same, Julia. Mine was on the ship Nancy with his family: Moore, William . . . . . . 50 * Listed together in this order (250 acres) Moore, Isobell . . . . . . 51 * Moore, Robert . . . . . . . 18 * (100 acres) Moore, Martha . . . . . . . 16 * (100 acres) Moore, Agnes . . . . . . . 14 * Moore, James . . . . . . . 12 * It was his g-g-g-grandaughter, who was my g-grandmother Susan Annie Moore, who married Demetrius Colvin Copeland, son of James Russell Copeland of TN. This Moore family went from Newberry Co, SC to Perry Co, AL to Union Parish, LA, which is where they got married. So, it's a long shot, and I'm grasping at straws looking for a connection.
