    1. Re: 1891 British Census COPELAND
    2. bill.copland
    3. Hi Jim The Joseph Copland whose family appear in the 1881 census at Hillmorton is a distant relative of mine. (Half first cousin twice removed, according to my computer) He is Joseph Copland, born 6 January 1845 at Old Luce, Wigtownshire, Scotland, to James Copland and his wife Martha Jane McClymont. (Glenluce is a wee town in the parish of Old Luce) His age is therefore 5 years out, but as he was illiterate he might have had a wee problem with his counting as well. He was married 22 Jul 1873 at Dalmellington, Ayrshire, Scotland to Lizzie McClymont, who was his first cousin, being the daughter of Martha Jane McClymont's big brother Willie. Joseph and Lizzie also had a daughter Mary born 5 Apr 1874 Dalmellington, Ayrshire, Scotland, but she must have died young.
