Following are two Copeland families living in Pierce chapel, Lee Al in 1880. Both families are living next door to each other. John Copeland and J.I Copeland appear to be brothers. Barbara, I believe that J.I. Copeland and wife Frances, are my grandparents. If you look at my message of June 4, 2005 on rootsweb you will see my connection. My grandmother, Amanda, was born in Salem, Alabama, and I know from a distant cousin, the names of her siblings which seem to match the names on the 1880 census. I have had to put together things circumstantially because I am now living in western Canada (tt makes genealogical research difficult) I responded to a message from what I think, is a distant cousin on rootsweb (Missy), but she hasn't returned my latest e-mails so I don't know what's happening there. As far as I can guess, the two families living in Pierce chapel, Lee, Al are related as brothers. I don't think that they are related to families in the Dekalb area. I know that my father, Robert Dixon (son of Fannie Copeland and James Dixon) was born in Salem, Lee county, Al. I think that his roots are in Lee and Russell counties and not Dekalb. However, I would be thrilled to have any information either way. I'm sorry I confused the names in my last message. James Dickson/Dixon and Amanda Copeland are the names of my grand-parents. I think that J.I. and Frances (Fanny) Copeland are my great-grandparents, but I do not have definitive proof yet. Does anyone on the list have access to the Alabama will books? J.I. Copeland died in 1922/3 in Russell county, Al and his will would probably have additional information.
