Eddie, I'm sorry. I"ve not been able to get a copy of Herman's book, for myself. Our local gen. library has a copy, thanx to the California Gen. Society that had an extra. Ohio Gen. Society has a copy and they will lend books to members - by mail. Herman died in the early 1990s and I've been unable to find his family up in the Sierra foothills. His book was self-published and, as far as I know, there are no more. My copy is a Xerox of his book that I did on our library's copy machine. What a task! But, I had it spiral bound and it's been very useful. I have one other source: William Copeland. He has been collecting all Copeland info for years. But, I've not heard from Bill for a long time and he was not well the last time I contacted him. You mentioned proof, I believe. I'm trying to be very careful about what I say. I have lots of info but most of it has come from others. I've not dug into that family prior to the Civil War. So, I'm offering help for those who would like to research and find proof on their own. Unfortunately, I have a "Tree" somewhere on the internet - done ages ago. I can't find it! Do you believe that? But, I did qualify my tree as information that needed to be researched by the reader. Hope that helps. jean Eddie Davis <ec21davis@sbcglobal.net> wrote: Thank you for the data -- the Copelands are a "new" branch that I'm researching, though I have researched Hezekiah Lasater that Elizabeth Copeland married. Ancestry.com , while a great genealogy site, often has conflicting genealogies and that was the case with the James Copeland line. One person gets a Gedcom of some research and then puts it on-line as their line without checking sources. The Nicholas Copeland line was not sourced, but the James and Diana line seemed to have slightly more data. My gut feeling from about 15 years of research was that the James and Diana line was probably correct, but I wanted to be sure. Is Mr. Coplen's book still in print, and if so, how much is it? Sounds like that was another bunch of immigrants to our country. There's a line that came from Loudon Co. in VA. Herman claims that the branch I came from moved out of NC into OH to leave a slave-holding state.
