State of South Carolina Spartanburg District I, Alexander Copeland, of said State and District in reference to Almighty God, being in a low state of health, though being in my proper senses do make this my last will and testament, between myself and my beloved wife and also between my dear children wishing to do justice between each one of them, giving them a full and equal share of my estate to the best of my knowledge wishing them not to think that I have shown any partiality etc. I give and bequeath to my beloved wife my plantation, household and furniture as much as she thinks proper to keep; one negro woman Nancy, one grey mare, two cows and calves. The plantation must be leased or rented for her support during her life, after her decease all above property will be put at public sale and the money equally divided among my heirs. Also I give and bequeath to my eldest son, James and his heirs, $400 in money besides $135.00 that was sent to his widow by Mr. Jacaway which is an equal share of my property with the rest of my heirs. George McWilliams, John McWilliams and Absalom Foster will assemble together and value each negro or negroes among my heirs and make the prices equally among the legatees out of the remainder of my property that is left or if there is not property enough to make those lots equal they must make it equal among themselves.
