    1. Re: John Abner Copeland & Cynthia B LUSK
    2. Oh yes, I'm desended from the Ohio Copelands. The most recent Copeland in my family was my paternal great grandmother, Ursula Copeland. She's buried in the Hollywood Cemetery, Los Angeles, along with her husband, George Wesley Bechdolt. Ursula was the daughter of Moses Allen Copeland and Elsie Catherine Snider. Their son, Wesley and his cousin John Copeland were killed in the Civil War, not long after they enlisted. There were three other siblings, all girls: Anna, Cynthia, Julia. I know nothing about them. I was very close to my grandfather and it was thru his stories and visiting the family plot in the Hollywood cemetery that is my source, for the time being. There's a book by Herman Coplen that traces this particular bunch of Copelands from Virgina on the south bank of the Rappahannock in what was then Lancaster County. They were part of a group brought to Virginia by Sir Tho. Luntsford who had a contract to bring 65 people to Virginia. According to the bits and pieces of info, I've come across, William's wife, Mary had no issue. She must have died. With Grace he had two sons that we know of. One was William and the other was John. Those two brothers were christened in Christ Church, Middlesex County, Virginia in 1667 & 1669. Most of the info above is from family stories, the cemetery, and Herman Coplen's book: "Copeland/Coplen & Allied Families - Immigrants to Virginia" The book is out of print and Herman died about 4-5 years ago. I have a xerox copy (what a chore that was) and there are copies in most of the decent sized genealogy libraries. One interesting note on Herman's book, no descendency from William's son John. All of Herman's research is the line from William, the first to be born in this country from that particular branch of Copelands I have not researched or found any info on John Abner and Cynthia B. Lusk. He's the s/o Joseph P. Copeland and Mary Ann English. They were married in Auglaize County. He was born there when it was Allen County. The split, creating Auglaize took place in 1848. He died in Lima, which is Allen Co. According to my source, Herman, John served in the Civil War in Co.D, 14 Reg. Ohio Vol. John Abner was considered to be a "Pioneer" of Auglaize Co. John & Cynthia had eight children: Emma, Alpha, Wilber, Howard, J.C., Mrs. Memo Amstutz and Mrs. D. N. Kelley. As you progress in your search, you'll be inundated with Copelands. They were numerous immigrants to this country from, I imagine, many places. Happy Hunting jean

I too have a GGGrandfather John Copeland, b abt 1795, who currently is my brick wall. He married Jane Dick in OH and is buried in Athens Co. My John is thought to be the first generation born in the US but I have been unable to confirm. E-Mail me at [email protected] for more copeland information.

My ggrandfather, John Copeland, was born in Loudoun county 21FEB1821....and there is my "brick wall". The problem is that there isn't any record of a birth to the families that are known to be living there on that date....assumption = John's parents were not regular residents of Loudoun and were only there by chance and soon moved on (Ohio). He married Emmaline Wise, abt 1844 in Ohio. My mind has really given the, "what ifs", a real work-out and was hoping your research would provide a new clue for me. Family lore is that John claimed to be the fourth or fifth generation of his line born in America. Look forward to hearing from you....Bill/Iowa
