Kathy Clark is my aunt. John Hansel Copeland was married about 1878 in San Antonio, TX. He married Wilhemina Ludwig. They're on the 1880 census with two children: Elizabeth, age 2 and John H. Jr, age 4 months. John Jr would have been 19 years old in 1899, so he could have been your greatgrandmother's father. I have a death date for John Jr. of May 14, 1939. Do you know when your greatgrandmother's father passed away? Did she have any siblings? I have a feeling we're probably cousins. I'm descended from Frederick Copeland (brother to John Hansel Copeland, Sr). He left Texas and lived for a while in Missouri, then moved to New Mexico and lived the last years of his life in Quanah, Texas. I would love to hear from you, maybe we can compare notes and help each other. Pam

    1. 1891 British Census COPELAND
    2. Jim Payne
    3. Does anyone recognize this particular COPELAND family? Could SKS look up the following family in the 1891 British Census and please let me know the details? I am not certain where they were living in 1891 as like others of my family they seem to have moved around wherever work was available. Looking at the established dates in my data it could have been London or Essex or Co Durham or Newcastle on Tyne, Northumberland, England or ??? I am almost certain that the Joseph in the 1881 Census is my great grandfather. When I looked at the 1901 British Census I got what appears to be the same parents but a different family (see below). I know that Joseph, Elizabeth, James and Harry in the 1901 census are my granduncles and grand aunts. If the 1891 British Census shows some of the children from the 1881 census [William; Martha; Mary; Margaret] and some from the 1901 census [Joseph; Elizabeth; James; Harry(?)] then I would know that they were the same family. On the other hand if it only showed children from the 1901 census then that would be an answer too! (I sometime wonder if Joseph Snr had two wives - the first one dying because an English aunt who has been a great help never mentioned the children in the 1881 census with the exception of Margaret who was her mother and my grandmother 1881 British Census Dwelling: 5 School Str Census Place: Hillmorton, Warwick, England Source: FHL Film 1341735 PRO Ref RG11 Piece 3080 Folio 19 Page 1 Marr Age Sex Birthplace Joseph COPELAND M 31 M Wigtonsh Glen Luce, Scotland Rel: Head Occ: Blacksmith Elizabeth COPELAND M 28 F Wigtonsh, Scotland Rel: Wife William COPELAND 5 M Ayrsh Ayr, Scotland Rel: Son Occ: Scholar Martha COPELAND 3 F Ayrsh N K, Scotland Rel: Daur Mary COPELAND 1 F Kilsby, Warwick, England Rel: Daur Margaret COPELAND 5 m F Hillmorton, Warwick, England Rel: Daur 1901 England and Wales Census Dwelling: Hisehope Census Place: Muggleswick, N W Durham, England Source: PRO Ref 13/4667 Marr Age Sex Birthplace Joseph COPELAND M 52 M Scotland Rel: Head Occ: Blacksmith Elizabeth COPELAND M 49 F Scotland Rel: Wife Joseph COPELAND 18 M Yorks Rel: Son Occ: Railway E Stoker Elizabeth COPELAND 17 F Durham Rel: Daur Occ: Dressmaker own account at home James COPELAND 12 M Essex Rel: Son Occ: School Harry COPELAND 10 M London Rel: Son Occ: School Jim Jim and Bev Payne New Zealand [email protected] Jim and Bev Payne New Zealand [email protected]

However, it is really no big deal - you are correct in stating that it is a private site, and that the owner may delete as he wishes. I forget that not everyone who is researching genealogy, does as I do on my site, and lets users/members put their family tree up for viewing. Forgive me, my mistake. I naturally figured that if you were asking for information, you wanted it for posting. Either way, it is not a big deal. By the way, please make certian that the photos of my mom that I posted, were deleted off the site, as I was. Good luck with your search.

After you put your tree on our site I ran all the names on your treee and could find no conections to our site. We have had many people who have viewed our site and have been added to our tree because they simpley gave us info that could be linked to our tree. They are still sharing with us an d free to view what ever is on our tree. There has been others who we didn't make a conection but they understood not all are family members or at least don't have the link to the treee. Remember it is a private site and the off was to visit not set up your own tree on his site. The Picture was of no family member that was linked to our site and he can remove anything he wants from his site that he pays for don't you agree.

However, I inadvertently posted a picture that didn't refer to the Copelands on it, and recieved a rather rude reply from Mr. Hettinger. I did, afterwards, post pictures of my mom - Joyce Marie Copeland-Hicks, as well as adding a short family tree. A few weeks afterwards, I opened up myfamily, intending to go into the "Copeland" site, and guess what? I had been deleted from the site. There is no indication at all, on my listing of myfamily sites, of the Copelands anymore. So, for all of you who do log onto Mr. Hettinger's site, please be aware that you can be deleted off this site, as easy as you can be added..... And, good luck to all you Copeland researchers! 1. Asterists in Census
    2. In the 1860 census record of Samuel Copeland [M-653, Reel 993, Sheet 219 (71-72 written) starting with line 32, Wayne Twp. Jeff. Co.], there are listed below his name: his wife, five children and then Luancha Cole, Charles Tipton. On the next page there are two more Copeland children. In front of the names of Luancha Cole and Charles Tipton are what I think are asterisks. There are two X's with dots between each angle. I didn't have time to figure out why the asterisks were there. One clue might be that Luancha (Luanca) had already been counted with her family [William and Achsah Cole]. I might give her the motive of padding Ohio's census count but since she was only one at the time, I'm giving her the benefit of the doubt. <g> Charles Tipton was listed as 26 and born in Ohio. My questions are: 1. Are these 1860 asterisks? 2. Is Charles Tipton listed elsewhere perhaps even counted on that day [July 3, 1860] by that enumerator [Amos Jones]? 3. There are some marriages between the Tiptons, Coles and Copelands. Can anyone tell me the relationship between this Charles Tipton and William and Achsah? I'm assuming Luancha didn't crawl over there on her own. Charles may have brought her. 4. Was Mr. Jones marking these two individuals so they wouldn't be counted twice? 5. Has anyone ever seen this before? I haven't. Brian L. Cole Researching Coles from England to MD to OH

And that Alexander died 2 Mar 1836 at an advanced age. They were married in 1777, and the eldest child, James was born 17 Sep 1778 and the second child, Charles was born 24 Aug 1780. Rebecca died in Nov, 1851 (one place says Oct 1851). No place of birth stated. Julia French Wood

His son Hilliard (my gg-grandfather) was living in the home of Hezakiah & Nancy Copeland at the time of the 1870 Census, which had led me to conclude - erroneously - that they were Hilliard's parents; today, however, I found the 1860 Census data which indicates otherwise, although Hezakiah and Joseph Copeland were likely to have been related. Hilliard's son Maryland Copeland (b. 1889) was my great-grandfather, whose daughter Thelma Marie "Jennifer" Copeland married Joseph J. Kennedy, Jr. and produced my father, Joseph J. Kennedy, III. I don't have anything yet on Joseph Copeland's parentage, but I do have quite a bit of census data on this branch of Copelands, so PLEASE e-mail me directly if you discover any connections or are interested in exchanging data.
