I found 4 trees here on Roots Web. and most of them are similiar. But I think it is your son's that I was looking at that is so different than the one on My family.com. Can you tell me why they run into two different families? Sorry, that I am so confused! Regards, Lea

My family name from way back is Copeland. My great grandmother tried in her way to research her family tree, but back then there wasn't many resources. I have never done this before, so I am stabbing in the dark, so to speak. I have some of my G Grandmother's notes, that she put in her diary. The names include several outlaws! Can you imagine! Would love to look at your family tree and see if any of the names match up! I would be so thrilled to find somewhere or some link to begin putting our family tree together. I would appreciated any help, and any resources that you might think would be useful. I apologize if I sound so naive, but you are my first contact! I thank you so much for your patience! 3. Aren't these lists wonderful! I had a suggestion from a lister to try a different Christian name and so I tried Martha and "Bingo" I found Pamela=Martha - the Martha COPELAND d/o Joseph and Elizabeth (Lizzie) that was on the 1881 census. I am repeating my original message but with the corrections in capitals. Please, please, please excuse the format, I am not shouting but I think it would be easier to see the new information. Rather than being a "brickwall" this is more a heavy impenetrable brick that I am trying to fit into a newly constructed branch of my family tree - which I realize is rather a mixed metaphor. I am aware that some of the details may seem a little indistinct but I think it may be better to indicate which I am certain about, and which there is still some doubt. Patricia/MARTHA LOWE (nee COPELAND) was my grand aunt and the daughter of Joseph COPELAND and Elizabeth (Lizzie) McCLYMONT. SHE WAS BORN AYRSH N K, SCOTLAND c 1878 (not London as I thought) She died in Newcastle on Tyne, Northumberland, England. She married James LOWE and they had Len, Harry Joe and Lizzie. Lizzie, who went by the surname of LOWE, was either fostered or adopted by James and Patricia being her niece. Lizzie's parents were probably William COPELAND (or Bill BROADBENT) and probably Alice WARD. I HAVE FOUND MARTHA AND JAMES LOWE IN THE 1901 CENSUS PLUS THEIR CHILDREN LEONARD(3)AND HARRY (9M)IN DERBYSHIRE, OF CHINLEY BUGSWORTH AND BROWNSIDE. My COPELAND family, while originating in Scotland as far back as I can trace, spread as far as I know in the 1800s and early 1900s to Co Durham, Yorkshire, DERBYSHIRE, Northumberland and Liverpool. Hoping this may make things clearer. Jim Jim and Bev Payne New Zealand [email protected]

I would like to exchange notes with you (e-mail: [email protected]) as I have theorized that he left Tennessee to avoid being in the Confederate Army. According to Census data, he gave his birth year as 1826. I do not know his parents' names, nor where he was born, nor anything about his siblings. He came to Indiana, married in 1849 or 1850 and had three children but only one of whom survived. It would be great to connect with his other family members. Harlan Copeland

    3. Hi, I have hit a major brick wall in my research on my Copelands and I hope somebody can help me. My Great grandfather was William Alexander Copeland born in Georgia in 1868, his parents were Mathew Copeland and Harriet Nelson who according to the 1920 census of Seattle, Wa. for William he says that his parents were from Virginia. I can find one mathew Copeland in Georgia in the 1850 census of Murray Co, and he is unmarried at this time. Does anyone have access to the 1870 census of Georgia? William married Geneva Jane Haney (Eva) in 1903 in Monroe Co, Wisconsin. They divorced around 1921-22 in Seattle Wa. and William married Eugenia Curtis in 1924. This man totally disappears after that, he no longer had any contact with his children Arminta and Mildred Copeland. I need to find both William and his father Mathew. If any of these names sound familiar please contact me. Thank you, Linda
