Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/ikJ.2ACIB/1247 Message Board Post: I am currently updating my family history and I have run into a few snags. If anyone has any information on the following, I would greatly appreciate any assistance you can offer. While backtracking my family history of the COPELAND's I could not find any solid information on the following members: >Hugh COPELAND b.abt.1790's Fermanagh, N.Ireland, d.unknown +m.Elizabeth EGERTON b.(approx. same as Hugh) d.unknown Hastings County, Ontario Canada >>They had 9 children all born in Fermanagh/Monaghan, N. Ireland abt. 1830's +/- 10yrs. Names: Hugh jr., Thomas, James, William, Jane, Robert, Sarah, Alex and Mary. **Hugh died in Ireland and Elizabeth immigrated to Canada with all her children at an unknown date. After spending short periods of time in Winchester and Proton Ontario, they finally settled on a farm on the 3rd concession, Tyendinga Township, Hastings County, Ontario Canada. ***Elizabeth remarried a Joseph Kinnear of England. I have a whole bunch of info. on her one son Thomas (my direct lineage) but not much on her or her other children. My hope is to fill as many as these blanks as possible prior to my trip to Ontario in mid September. More importantly, find out about Hugh and his family history. If you have any info., or would like to see what I've gathered for info. so far, please contact me direct and I can email you the Excel file I've created. Regards email: [email protected] P.S. While on my trip to Ontario, I was given a few leads on the above. They have not yet panned out, but I am still hopeful. If anyone still would like to have a copy of the Excel file, please feel free to contact me at the above email.

    1. Re: Copeland Ancestry
    2. You're right, we don't know "who is what"....And, I find it necessary to keep in mind that a large number of Copelands did immigrate to this country during the 1600s, and later. Herman Coplen lists some genealogies on other Copelands that immigrated to our country. The number of references is very large and the published books were printed many years ago. I've been able to verify some of the more recent information. Follow your heart and keep digging. jean

My ancesters must have all been rebels, as they are always the ones who went a different direction and aren't in the "Book". I will keep searching. Thanks again, Julia

    2. In a message dated 10/25/02 2:58:22 PM, [email protected] writes: << BTW: Mary must've died not long after they arrived in Virginia, or, so it appears. His second wife, Grace, is supposed to have married William c1666, in VA. >> There is no proof that the William who immigrated with wife Mary is the same William Copeland who is married to Grace. There could have been two William's, and William and Mary could have had sons William and Nicholas. We will probably never know for sure. But there is certainly a Nicholas Copeland b by 1642, child of someone or else another immigrant, living in Old Rappahannock Co. in 1663. Rappahannock and Middlesex Co's. both divided off from Lancaster. Luntsford's patent was dated 1650, but that does not tell us how long William and Mary Copeland had been here. Barbara Good
