    1. DNA Testing
    2. Jesse M. Lawrence
    3. Hello All Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas. There is a lot of work underway through DNA testing to prove origins of family lines and prove correct ancestry. The origin of the Copeland line is very complex and confusing. We are all working off of much speculation and guessing. Those male descendants who retain surname of Copeland could help clarify the many Copeland line origins and correct ancestry identification by participating in these test. I have done the test and it is very simple. If you have any interest in participating is such test please visit the site below and it fully explains the program. If we can get enough participation it could go a long way to help clarify some of the Copeland lines. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~allpoms/genetics1a.html Thanks for your consideration and Happy New Year -- Best Regards And Have A Good Day, Jesse M. GA. Obediah was the name of Richard's brother that was nearest his age, although I don't know if he was a year older or a year younger. I would greatly like to locate Obediah's birth date because it will narrow the possibilities for my Richard's birth year. As there was more than one Obediah Copeland, I wondered if you have any firm data that links your Obediah to mine. I have a list of Richard's other brothers and a lot of their birth dates - just not a birthdate for my own ancestor nor for his brother Obediah. Relatives of both this Copeland line and those who married into it (Dunn, Perry, Gatewood, Lantham etc.) were in Green Co. before migrating on to Harris Co. GA and into SE AL (Dorsey, etc.) - then descendants onward to TX & FL. I noticed a Jasper N. Copeland in the post civil war records of either Barbour or Coffee Co. AL when I was looking at the descendants of my Richard Copeland. But I had no link from that (SE AL) Jasper Copeland to my Copeland line, even though a lot of Richard's (1750) brother's descendants are in the area. I wondered if you have anything in your records that links that post civil war Jasper N. Copeland to the earlier Copeland line? Just curious.

I believe you need to look in Nansemond County records in Virginia. Most of the Copeland people decended from John Copeland who was kicked out of New England for his Quaker beliefs around 1655. (after they cut off his ears.) You will find a lot of information on his decendants in the Quaker Encylopedia by W. Hinshaw. Look in or around the Nansemond County area in Virginia. Nearly all of the Copelands in this area are his decendants. If you find the connection you are one of my relatives. Good luck!!

    1. Obit: Mrs. Ellen Grace MYRICK AINSWORTH of Louisiana
    2. Hello to the Rootsweb Lists of MYRICK, AINSWORTH, PARKER, HERRINGTON, GRANTHAM, STUCKEY, LEWIS, BRIGHT, COPELAND, GRAVES, EARLE, ELLZEY, PRINE This morning, Friday, November 29, 2002, my beautiful and wonderful aunt, Mrs. Ellen Grace MYRICK AINSWORTH, passed away. Mrs. Ellen Grace MYRICK AINSWORTH was almost 81 years of age when she passed away today from a heart attack in a nursing home in Alexandria, Louisiana where she had a short time ago entered to live after stroke complications. Up until that time she had been a remarkably vibrant woman and in true Louisiana style loved "Popeye's" fried chicken. Mrs. Ellen Grace MYRICK AINSWORTH spent most of her years singing with her lovely voice in church and with family and was born: January 09, 1922 near Magee, Simpson County, Mississippi to parents, Allie Artimissa PARKER, (Twin,) born: August 11, 1892 near Braxton, Simpson County, Mississippi, died: October 07, 1976 in Oak Grove, West Carroll Parish, Louisiana where she had lived on the family farm since about 1929 when she moved with her oldest children and husband, James Martin "Jim" MYRICK, born: March 02, 1892 near Magee, Simpson County, Mississippi, died: September 10, 1940 near Oak Grove, West Carroll Parish, Louisiana at his farm where his wife, Allie, continued to live until her death 36 years later. Mrs. Ellen Grace MYRICK AINSWORTH was certainly one of the great beauties of 1940's Louisiana with her 'movie star' face and figure as well as being a lovely singer and a wonderful cook in a family of wonderful cooks. Everyone loved Ellen's 'Chicken Spaghetti' which she prepared for many "Sunday Singings" and family reunions. And her smile lit up the room along with her sparkling personality. Mrs. Ellen Grace MYRICK AINSWORTH resided most of her life on the family farm near/and in town in Oak Grove, West Carroll Parish, Louisiana as well as in Minden, Louisiana before and after the death of her husband, Almy Leon "Pee Wee" AINSWORTH, who was the son of John AINSWORTH and Mary Etta CONN of Wesson, Copiah County, Mississippi. While "Pee Wee" was Career Navy in his chosen profession as a Chef ,which he continued after retiring from the Navy, Ellen, "Pee Wee," and their children, Carolyn, Ed and Terri, also lived in Rhode Island and other locations. Mrs. Ellen Grace MYRICK AINSWORTH is survived by her daughters, Carolyn and Terri and son, Edward "Ed," and several grandchildren living in Texas and Louisiana as well as 3 of her brothers out of a total of 10 siblings who are: Callie O'Neal "Shorty" MYRICK of Louisiana, Johnny Carroll "J.C." MYRICK and Billy Earle "Bill" MYRICK, (my father,) both currently of Texas. Ellen's other siblings who are now deceased were Mrs. Daisy Juanita "Lady" MYRICK KENNEDY, W. Spencer MYRICK, (Senator,) Mrs. Lois Marie MYRICK ROBINSON, Mrs. Lucille MYRICK RODGERS, (all of Louisiana,) Mr. Tommy Catron "Tom" MYRICK of Texas and James Eudell/aka James Martin "Jim" MYRICK, Jr. also of Texas and numerous neices and nephews. Further ancestry of Mrs. Ellen Grace MYRICK AINSWORTH includes as follows: From Ellen's mother: Allie Artimissa PARKER, daughter of Rachael Moranda "Randy" LEWIS, born: Abt. 1851 in Jones County, MS, (daughter of Harriett ELLZEY, (d/o Evan ELLZEY and Mary COLLINS?,) and John LEWIS, born: Abt. 1820 in Jones Co., MS, (s/o Nancy COPELAND, (d/o Rachael TUCKER and Ripley COPELAND, (RS,)) of NC and Sumter Co., SC, and Nancy's husband, Howell LEWIS, born: Bet. 1781-1788 in Granville Co., NC, (believed to be descended from the LEWIS - WARNER - MERIWETHER - CRAWFORD families out of Goochland Co., VA into Granville Co., NC,) and Rachael Moranda "Randy" LEWIS married under the name of Moranda COLEMAN, (perhaps indication of earlier unknown husband ? COLEMAN,) to husband, Wesley BRIGHT and then to Ellen's grandfather, Spencer B. PARKER, born: August 31, 1859 in Smith or Rankin Co., MS, (son of Jeremiah "Jerry" PARKER, born: 1795 in Maryland, (who resided with 1st wife in Copiah County, MS, then in Smith County, MS,) and 2nd/3rd wife, Sarah "Sally" JENNINGS, born: 1821/22 in Covington Co., MS/or Alabama, (daughter of Kitty EARLE, born: Abt. 1795 in Virginia, (daughter of Tabitha WILLIAMS, (descendant of BILLINGTON - WILLIAMS and PEMBERTON - WILLIAMS lines out of 1600s England into New England then into Virginia,) and Samuel EARLE, IV, (RS/Sgt.,) (2nd son of his name,) born: January 20, 1760 at "Town Run" Plantation, Fauquier County, Virginia, who was the 2nd son of his name of his father, (Major) Samuel EARLE, III, born: Abt. 1692 in Westmoreland County, Virginia, who was the 1st Member of the House of Burgesses elected from Frederick County, Virginia, and his 2nd wife, Elizabeth HOLBROOK/HOLDBROOK, born: 1728 in Prince William County, Virginia. (Major) Samuel EARLE, III's 1st wife was Anna SORRELLS and (Major) Samuel EARLE, III descended from Mary SYMONS, immigrant, (Sir) John EARLE, immigrant, who settled Yeocomico Parish, Northumberland County, Virginia along with another of Ellen's ancestral grandfathers, Thomas HALE(S)/aka HAIL(L)ES/HAYLES, through daughter, Bridget HALE(S,) as well as descent from John BENNETT through daughter, Phillis BENNETT who married Samuel EARLE, II And Kitty EARLE's husband, Bailey JENNINGS, born: Abt. 1789 in Virginia, probably Richmond County, son of Rachel JORDAN and John JENNINGS, Sr., (RS,) born: Abt. 1748 in Richmond Co., VA, where his family had resided since the mid-1600s when his immigrant ancestral grandfathers, John JENNINGS, John PAYNE, (Captain) Alexander DONIPHAN, Sr., Matthew KELLY, and Patrick NORTON immigrated from England to Old Rappahannock County, Virginia which became Richmond County. In addition in this lineage there was probable ROBINSON, WILLOUGHBY, MOORE, PARTRIDGE descent. The aforementioned Rachael Moranda LEWIS's sister, Martha Ann LEWIS, married William Henry PRINE, (son of Mary Ann WILLIAMS and John Anderson PRINE, born: Bef. 1798 in Smoakes, Colleton, SC, died: September 1852 in Lowndes County, Georgia,) and their descendants married into the RODGERS family which married into the MYRICK family. And from Ellen's father: James Martin "Jim" MYRICK descends from William HERRINGTON, Sr. who was born before 1755 in Craven County, North Carolina and then through his 2 sons, William HERRINGTON, Jr., born: Abt. 1794 who married Cynthia "Sina/Sena" GRANTHAM, born: Abt. 1800 in Robeson County, North Carolina on the South Carolina border, daughter of Richard GRANTHAM, Jr. and Elizabeth AMMONS, and from William, Jr.'s brother, Enoch HERRINGTON, born: Abt. 1800 in New Hanover County, North Carolina, and wife, Harriett STUCKEY, born: Abt. 1802 in Georgia, (believed to have been the daughter of John STUCKEY, (Twin,) born: October 27, 1771 in York County, Virginia, died: Aft. 1847 in Attala County, Mississippi, (whose ancestry may have been, (not yet proven,) as the son of Edmond STUCKEY, II and wife, Nancy Elizabeth HOWELL, (daughter of Edmund HOWELL,) and Edmond STUCKEY, II, (son of Katherine ? and Edmond STUCKEY, I, (son of Charles STUCKEY and Ann(e) CARY, (daughter of Ann(e) TAYLOR, (daughter of (Captain) Thomas TAYLOR,) and (Captain) Miles/Mylles CARY/CAREY, Sr., (but still researching all of this.) Harriett STUCKEY and Enoch HERRINGTON were the parents of Isham Daniel HERRINGTON who married Rebecca Jane "Jane" DICKENS/DICKINS/aka DICKSON/DICKERSON, born: 1828 in Mississippi, who was the daughter of a man named ?/David?/John? DICKENS/DICKINS/etc. and wife, Catherine GRAVES, born: 1800 in Georgia, daughter of a man named William W. GRAVES, born: 1779 in Georgia, (son of James GRAVES, (RS,) born: 1730 in Culpeper Co., VA, and wife, Mary COPELAND,) and William W. GRAVES' wife, Nancy ?/LOTT?/MIDDLETON?) The man ?/David?/John? DICKENS probably had a sister or other close relative named Marian/Miriam DICKENS and they were related to the McCRANEY/ aka McRANEY family of 1850 Covington County, Mississippi. Isham Daniel HERRINGTON, Jr., (CSA,) and Rebecca Jane "Jane" DICKENS/DICKINS' daughter, Harriet Katherine HERRINGTON, born: 1868 in MS, married her 3rd cousin, Calvin Pierce "Callie" MYRICK, born; November 1859 in Jasper County, MS, who was the son of Phoebe Catherine HERRINGTON, born: April 1833 in MS, daughter of the aforementioned William HERRINGTON, Jr. and wife, Cynthia "Sina/Sena" GRANTHAM, and Phoebe's husband who was William H. And Calvin Pierce "Callie" MYRICK and Harriet Katherine "Hattie" HERRINGTON were the parents of James Martin "Jim" MYRICK and the paternal grandparents of Ellen Grace MYRICK. And Elizabeth "Bettie" PIERCE's husband, William MYRICK, born: Abt. 1788 in Barnwell County, South Carolina, believed to be the William MYRICK who was the son of (Colonel) James L.
