Good Evening Everyone, A very nice lady named Mary Richardson sent this link to an article about a Copeland family. It really is interesting. Her message is below. Take care - Emma I'm not a COPELAND-L subscriber, but an article in today's Richmond (Virginia) Times-Dispatch might interest your listers. As such, he was probably old enough to have been the father of the Henry Brown who married Elizabeth Unknown (as well as Daniel Brown who married Elizabeth Coleman). Per a "family tree" on RootsWeb, the maiden name of Keziah who married the OTHER Henry Brown (i.e., the son of Daniel and Jane (Copeland) Brown) was Jones. Henry and Keziah (Jones) Brown had a daughter named Jane, and Jane named her own son Mordecai (no doubt after her brother of that same name).

Per another post, the daughter of Daniel and Jane (Copeland) Brown named Mary Brown (she died before 20 Mar 1753 in Essex Co., VA) married John Rutherford (he died in 1742 in Essex Co., VA). That same posts shows that Mary had a sister named Ann Brown who married a Mr. Atkinson. Also per that post, Nicholas Copeland left his granddaughter Mary (Brown) Rutherford 170 acres in his will in 1720, and Mary and her husband John Rutherford then sold it. Daniel and Jane (Copeland) Brown also had Henry Brown who married Keziah, but I don't know Keziah's maiden name. I have a ways to go to prove it, but I suspect that my Browns came from this line. It appears that Daniel's father was Francis Brown "I," and it appears that Francis "I" also had Frances "II" who had a Daniel Brown of his own (who married Elizabeth Coleman). Francis "I" or "II" might have also had another Henry Brown who was born about 1684 in the Middlesex/Essex Co., VA area and who married an Elizabeth Unknown.
Jean, I am no means an "expert" on the early Copelands but I have: William Copeland & Mary, of Scotland> sons Nicholas 1 and William 2. William 2 is the one whose second wife was Grace, and that is one of my Copeland lines. I also belong to the "other" Copelands, so I have double-trouble in researching........ dotsicle

Nicholas "2" was a son of Nicholas 1 and Judith West (Nicholas 1 had 2 other wives). Nicholas 1 (1640-1720 Essex VA) was the son of William Copeland and wife Mary of Scotland. That is all I have for Jane Copeland who married Daniel Brown, except that she also had a daughter Mary Brown.
May an alien intrude? I've been digging at the FHL in some of their book collections. I've always sworn that there were no Nicholas men in the Copeland line. Lemme back off on that. I'm seeing Nicholas show up in VA in the early years. But, qualifying that, he's not in my Copeland line. Herman never mentions a Nicholas. Where do you get your info on the original Wm. & Mary? Where does Grace fit in? Or is this another pair? It's starting to get more confusing for me Help jean --- tunnelm@verizon.net wrote: > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this > mailing list. > > Surnames: Brown, Browne, Coleman, Copeland > Classification: Query > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/ikJ.2ACIB/1352.2.1.2.1.1.2 > > Message Board Post: > > Do you know anything about Jane Copeland, daughter of > Nicholas Copeland, marrying a Daniel Brown? Hi Jean, I am not sure, but the cost of the 12 markers that are offered by the National Geographic Project are the same price as if ordered through our Copeland Project. They are both done by the same company. There is no such thing as a Surname mtDNA project, because females change their names each generation and the daughters of sisters have different surnames. That test is used for location/timeline studies. As for your sons, their Y-DNA would be the same as their father's. Absolutely, Barbara. I found some books at the Family History Library, today, that I'd die for. But, there, you are limited to how much time you can hold down the copy machine. Down in the British basement, today, and they have only two copy machines and one was out of order. So, you limit yourself to the most important pages. Amazon sells second hand books. They're usually from individual vendors. But, I've found the prices to be good and have bought books, CDs and DVDs from the second hand dealers. The disadvantage is that each one charges shipping & handling. Where, if you bought all your books, etc. from Amazon or any one dealer, you pay less in that department. --- BWGood@aol.com wrote: > > In a message dated 10/3/05 8:44:26 AM, > jeaninnapa@sbcglobal.net writes: > > > > If you can get the book and can > > afford to do so, make a zerox-type copy. > > > I have photo-copied entire books that were old and out of > print.
