Deloris, The Spanish Flu was especially harsh to my grandfather (Thomas Ripley COPELAND Jr) and his family. My grandmother, Bervice Florella HUDSON, was his third wife. The following is taken from Bethune Observer (Kershaw Co SC) Oct 31, 1918: "The hand of affliction has fallen heavily on Mr. Ripley Copeland, of Lancaster, during the past two or three weeks from the effects of Spanish influenza. Mr. Copeland, and all of the members of his family were stricken with the disease. His little daughter, Ethel, first died, then his little son, Lee, passed away. His wife is very low and is not expected to survive and himself and baby are very sick. His first wife and baby died about a year and a half ago. Mr. Copeland is the youngest brother of Mr. J.E. Copeland of this town and formerly resided here." My grandfather and infant son, Thomas Ripley III, survived...but he lost his wife, son, and daughter. Just sharing my families experince with Epidemics... This family lived in Lathamville, DeKalb county Al 1920. This is not the 1st time I have seen a Copeland Teague connection, but can not find the Copeland girl in this census on the 1910 or the 1930 census rolls. Which Copelands does she belong to. Bill J Teague 28 Al Al Al Head Dora 35 Al Al Al Wife Earnest 8 Al Al Al Son Floyd 5 Al Al Al Son Leonard 3 1/2 Al Al Al Son Tena Copeland 19 Al Al Al Cousin Thomas Tegue 69 Al Al Al Father I tend to think there is a connection with the James Alexander Copeland and James R Teague from 1900 Census also in Lathamville, DeKalb.
My Copelands has a James Copeland leaving Iredell County, North Carolina between the 1810 and 1820 census for Johnson County, Indiana. Then in Jackson County, Indiana for the 1830 census. We don't know his father. He had a sister who married a Abbot, Elizabeth, and was widowed and living next door to him in 1810 in the Iredell County, NC census. We don't know who their parents were. I believe he had a brother, Hugh, widowed, who came to Jackson County, Indiana by the 1820 census. Are we related?

I am totally lost with this family........ I have a James Copeland, wife unknown, had sons Robert and James. There was also a set of twins. James (b 1904? d 1962) married a Gladys E. unknown. Robert (b 1900, d 1963) married Isa Victoria Caldwell. Robert, Isa, James and Gladys are all buried at Woodlawn in London Ontario. I have searched the indexes for 1901 and there are far too many James and Roberts to find the right family. I have not been able to find them in the 1911 census either. I would appreciate any clue to get me on my way. TIA K Copeland Barrie ON
The information I have seen on George Copeland states that he came to Laurens County, South Carolina in about 1755 from Pennsylvania with his 12 year old son John. I am researching this line and wonder if anyone else is interested in sharing information. My line is George, John, John II, Henry, John M, Wyatt O. Hoping to find some cousins out there!! Hi Everyone, Info. about this had been posted on various sites but.... just in case you haven't given it a try yet you might want to do so. Brigham Young University is in the process of scanning and making available on line books from their family history collection. So far they have digitized about 5000 books. While there is a basic search, you might want to try the advanced search as you seem to get more hits that way. Anyway... go to this URL http://www.lib.byu.edu/ go to the link - Find Other Materials then to the link - Electronic then to the link - On Line Collections then to the link - Text Collections then to - Family History Archive You will then see a search page. I haven't worked with this site much yet to figure out all that it has and how best to do searches but it looks terrific. Take care - Emma
Thought some of you might be interested in this site. There is more information on the site. Take care - Emma http://www.hhs.gov/familyhistory/ U.S. Surgeon General's Family History Initiative Health care professionals have known for a long time that common diseases - heart disease, cancer, and diabetes - and even rare diseases - like hemophilia, cystic fibrosis, and sickle cell anemia - can run in families. If one generation of a family has high blood pressure, it is not unusual for the next generation to have similarly high blood pressure. Tracing the illnesses suffered by your parents, grandparents, and other blood relatives can help your doctor predict the disorders to which you may be at risk and take action to keep you and your family healthy. To help focus attention on the importance of family health history, U.S. Surgeon General Richard H. Carmona, M.D., M.P.H., in cooperation with other agencies within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has launched a national public health campaign, called the U.S. Surgeon General's Family History Initiative, to encourage all American families to learn more about their family health history.
Good Morning Everyone, Not to start a discussion on the list but just an FYI. You might want to go to this site and read the article about a program that creates "fake" family trees. http://deseretnews.com/dn/view/1,1249,635160683,00.html Fake family trees online may trip up genealogists Take care - Emma
Good Evening Everyone, I have been having computer problems and although I have tried to keep an eye on things I am concerned that I might have missed an e-mail from someone. So... if you have tried to contact me recently and I did not respond then please try again. I also thought this might be a good time for a list update. At the present time there are 125 subscribers to the regular version of the mail list and 67 subscribers to the digest version. Fall is here and the holidays are approaching quickly. We tend to get busy this time of year and often mail boxes will fill up. Sometimes when that happens folks will bounce off the lists. So... you might want to keep these addresses handy just in case. First of all, if you think you might have bounced off some of the lists you were on you can check your subscriptions by going to password central and asking for a list of your subscriptions. The URL is: http://passwordcentral.rootsweb.com If you think you have missed some postings to any of the mail lists you can check the archives for that mail list. Go to this URL and enter the name of the mail list. You can then check messages by each month. http://archiver.rootsweb.com You can also search past messages for any mail list by going to this URL: http://searches2.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl Enter the name of the list you want to search. You can then search the messages by year. If you are interested in finding other rootsweb mail lists that might be of interest then go to this URL: http://lists.rootsweb.com And... as always, If you have any questions or concerns about any rootsweb mail list then contact the administrator for that list. You can send a message to any admin by sending the message to: listname-admin@rootsweb.com Replace the word "listname" with the name of the list - for example: smith-admin@rootsweb.com Of course, you can always use their personal address if you know it. We have also had some new folks join the list recently. I do hope new members will post their information/needs. Someone just might be able to help in some way. As you encounter others working on your same names, invite them to join the various rootsweb lists as well, The more folks we have the more we might be able to help each other. And... finally.... take care.... and enjoy your families - they are precious indeed. Emma
