    1. [COPELAND] Copeland Genealogy
    2. To all Copeland Reserchers: I just want to share my recent experiences relative to the DNA testing that is available on the internet today....This testing may be considered expensive to most persons, but after spending a lot of time and effort searching for the blanks in my "Copeland Tree", hiring genealogists and researchers.....this DNA program has proved to me that one can trace their heritage in a manner that is almost foolproof.......it DOES NOT give you exact differences between generations, but it certainly points you in a direction that MAY have been hidden or unknown to you in all of your past research. In some recent experiences, it has openend "Pandora's" box for several persons working on their pedigree. This experience can be most provocative to accept. I realize this posting will cause a great deal of consternation. prudypad1@aol.com

    1. Re: Reunion
    2. Hi All, Just got my invitation to the Copeland /Prescott reunion the last Saturday in July, the 29 at Bethany Baptist Church on St Charles Road in Lee County near Bishopville. Billy is this the reunion you go to? The invitation was sent by Janie E Copeland of Sumter. Roy and Sammie and families I have been to several of these reunions and the people there are just the best. I know they would be very glad to have you all there. These folk descend from Ripley Copeland a brother of Aaron Copeland. Just to refresh your memory; Aaron Copeland, Archibald Copeland Sr, Archibald Copeland Jr, Barney Copeland, Curtis Copeland and then Roy and Sammie. Looking forward to seeing you all there. Patsy

    1. Joseph H COPELAND
    2. Fred Copeland
    3. Hello All: I Received the following query from a fellow COPELAND researcher and was wondering if anyone had run across this Joseph H. COPELAND in their research: "My father's birth father was Joseph H. COPELAND, probably born in the late 1870s or very early 1880s, not sure. My mother thought he came from North Carolina and that he was a cotton broker. How she knew or guessed that much I do not know. He is a mystery man because I can find lots of Joseph COPELANDs but no reference to anyone that I think may be my father's birth father. In fact, I cannot even find my father's name which was Joseph F. COPELAND, born 1905 in Washington DC. Any assistance greatly received... Regards, Fred Copeland SC

    2. Hi: Seems Copeland's have the capability of appearing and disappearing at will. My gr grand mother Sarah Copeland Was never born, but lived with sis, in 1900 Al, married 1901in Al. Birthed children while in Al 1910 thru 1914, tended to children in 1920 in La, and 1930 while in Ark. Rumor has it she died, maybe 1947, but this is pure conjecture, as no death cert can be obtained. While there is a remembered burial spot in Ark, it can not be proven or documented that she was born or died. SMILE BTW the sister Mary E. above didn't have any parents either. She just appeared 1897 Married in Ala. > > From: Carolyn Hennen <carolynsescape37@yahoo.com> > Date: 2006/07/13 Thu PM 04:19:26 EDT > To: COPELAND-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: Re: [COPELAND] COPELAND / MOORE TN>GA>FL > > Tera, > Hi. 3. I think all of our Copelands are good at this "disappearance thing.." Have you guys ever seen the guion miller rolls? There were a few Copelands on the list and what confused me most was the fact that Adaline and Mary Copeland on there were the same names i was looking for and its just wierd tha5t Wm. disappeared on the way to Texas from Ark. and then theres a Mary and adaline on the list. It made me wonder if Wm. was killed in between moves ( 1850to 1860 somewhere in that time frame) and maybe there was a "relationship" that may have brought another child? I can send the link for that site and also my census info i gathered..I have Henry Clinton Copeland's ( wm. and Mary's son) military info so i think my best bet may be to see if his parents info is anywhere on the military information? Is anyone familiar with how to go about this? It just seems like its a "chasing my tail" thing with trying to find these people. I have Henry C"s siblings and downward info with dates and info.. There are some of our family in Alabama, Mississippi and Florida. Who knows where else... Thanks for the help and i'll keep my eyes open for info ya'll are looking for too.. Carolyn..:)) P.s. adding my census info at the bottom of the page and also the guion miller link.. sorry this is so long but wanted to send it to see if it connected to any of ya'll.. its from an old email a fellow researcher and i sent back and forth when i first found my Copelands. Some of the info doesnt seem to "jive" so we are looking back into it but it seems pretty accurate. The military info is in here also.. EMAIL: It took some digging but I finally found Henry C Copeland's family in TX in 1860 and in AR in 1850. I also found his and his brother's service in the CSA, too. 1860 Hopkins co TX, Bright Star, pg 190 note: Bright Star is now known or also known as Sulphur Springs *gh Mary Copeland 44 SC George 24 AR Henry 20 AR Columbus 18 AR Adaline 16 AR James 12 AR Annie 10 AR Eldridge 7 TX Annie 2 TX After I found this one I started digging in AR in 1850...that takes a little more doing because the 1850 census is not indexed on Heritage Quest, so I went to each county where I found an index for 1850 in census-online. I looked through all of them...and the very last county that had any Copelands listed was where I found them. They were listed alphabetically and I found them in Scott Co AR. :) 1850 Scott co AR Boone Twp, pg 140b William Copeland 49 NC Mary 37 TN George W 14 AR Henry C 9 AR Christopher C 6 AR [Columbus in 1860 census] Adaline 4 AR James M 3 AR Ann 4/12 This site http://gen.1starnet.com/civilwar/9thinf.htm is where I found Columbus C Copeland age 20 b abt 1841 pvt., Co F enlisted 12 Oct 1861 at Bright Star Henry C. Copeland age 21 b abt 1840 pvt., Co G enlisted 8 Oct 1861 Tarrant I found George W. Copeland in the 4th Regiment, TX Cavalry (4th Mounted Volunteers) at http://www.itd.nps.gov/cwss/soldiers.htm After finding all this I got to wondering "why would Henry go to AL when he couldn't find is family after returning from the war?" So I looked up the 9th infantry and found this: 9th Regiment, Texas Infantry (Maxey's) (Young's) 9th (Maxey's) Infantry Regiment [also called 8th Regiment] was organized during September, 1861. The men were recruited in Galveston and Paris, and Titus, Llano, Collin, and Lamar counties. It moved east of the Mississippi River and saw action at Shiloh and Perryville. Later it was assigned to General P. Smith's and Extor's Brigade. It fought at Murfreesboro, served in Mississippi, then participated in the campaigns of the Army of Tennessee from Chickamauga to Nashville. Ordered to Alabama, it ended the war at Mobile. This regiment lost thirty percent of the 226 engaged at Shiloh and thirty-eight percent of the 323 at Murfreesboro. Few surrendered in May, 1865. Its commanders were Colonels Samuel B. Maxey, Wright A. Stanley, and William H. Young; Lieutenant Colonels William E. Beeson and Miles A. Dillard; and Majors James Burnet, W.M. Harrison, and James H. McReynolds. http://www.itd.nps.gov/cwss/soldiers.htm Since he had finished his service in AL, maybe he liked it there and/or had met the Eubanks family and decided to return. I don't see anything that indicates that his family had ever been there before. It will take some more digging to determine what happened to his family. There is a James B Copeland in 1870 Hunt co TX that is abt the right age to be his brother. Hunt is a neighboring county to Hopkins. 3. this is an older email between a fellow researcher and myself when we found my great grandfather, henry leroy "lee" copeland, great grandson to william. do you think they connect with any of the copelands you know of? thanks.. carolyn Carolyn, It took some digging but I finally found Henry C Copeland's family in TX in 1860 and in AR in 1850. G.H.
