His father's name was Matthew Copeland and his mother was Harriet Nelson. He married Eva (Geneva) Haney in 1903 in Sylvester, Wisconson, they later moved to Washington State but I do not know when. I am having a very difficult time locating any info on him. I do know he was a decorator in both Wi and Wa. and also worked at one time in Chicago, Ill. These are my Great Grandparents. If you see any connection please let me know. Thank You!

Hampton, NH in 1871. After the birth of their last child in the mid 1880's I had no record of him until recently, when I discovered he had a second wife, Harriet Crofts, and a number of children, including: Isaac Hamilton, William J., Elizabeth F. Walter P., Philip W., Robert N., Theodore R. and Grace, all of them born in Hampton Falls, NH. If anyone is related to any of these people, I would love to hear from you. 1. COPELAND surname in South Florida 1940's-2001
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: COPELAND, ANDERSEN, WOLFE Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/ikJ.2ACIB/1132 Message Board Post: I'm researching my family history, which has taken me to Engalnd, Switzerland, Holland and Germany. My searches and connections have been very successful for my family surnames. It is my children's grandfather's family that I am hoping to locate, to add their family history to my family tree, for my children. This COPELAND family is from Miami, Ft. Lauderdale and possibly NY. Here's the long and short of it....in the mid 1940's, George COPELAND was an avid golfer in Miami, Ft. Lauderdale and West Palm Beach, Florida. He met and became involved with a woman by the name of Ellen Andersen Wolfe, also an avid golfer. They became involved and had a son. Ellen was married to Albert Wolfe, a gentleman from State Island, NY...so she wasn't free to marry George. George left the relationship and to my knowledge he moved to Miami, Florida where he married and went on to have several children. I don't believe there was any contact between George and Ellen after they parted. George Copeland back in the mid 1940's was abt. 30-35 yrs. of age and was a tall, very good looking man. His son, the father of my children, is the exact image of him. I'm not looking to stir up trouble, as I know there are still member's of this Copeland family still living. I am only hoping to connect with them to add their family to my family tree for my children. No information on living family will be exchanged. My email address is [email protected] Linda

    1. Richard Peter Copeland b. ca 1750, lived in SC & GA
    2. Linda Stringer
    3. I am researching my ancestor Richard (Peter?) Copeland, b. ca 1750. I have seen various listings for where he was born. Does anyone have any documented evidence?? Or real evidence of his actual full given name? I find records for Richard & Sarah Copeland in Edgefield Co. SC and in Putnam Co. GA. I descend from their son John Thomas Copeland. Richard Peter Copeland (as most list him) was married to Sarah Dunn, daughter of Waters Dunn b. ca 1775 Essex Co. VA and wife Elizabeth Gatewood b. bef 1728 (where?). Richard and Sarah do have an attributed son that is often referred to as Richard Peter Copeland, Jr. Although I did not see a Richard Peter Copeland among the heirs of his estate - why not? Richard Peter (Jr.) died sometime after 1850, so certainly was alive then. Can anyone shed any clarification on any of these aspects? I don't know if his will was written by his hand or by someone else, it is dated 24 July 1823. In beginning this will, his name is spelled Richard Copland, and he signed the will with initials, the first clearly an R. The second, I have no idea. Doesn't look recognizably like any of the other capital letters in his will. Possibly may even be "W," given the letter shapes of that era, and that signatures were often written differently than that of the normal handwriting and/or he may not have written the actual will. Will signed 24 July 1823. Will filed in Putnam Co. GA 15 Nov 1823. (Will Book B Folio 10) Will gave money and goods to several specific people. Wife $5, Theodrick Webb $500, William Cook $100, Washington Jeter 1 negro named Anthony and land I had of Henry T.(?) Williams, my household goods to my son Baldy, $2 with what he has got to Edmond West, Jesse Mosely $2, Daniel Mosely $2, all the rest of my estate to be equally divided between William and John Copeland and that they be my exequaturs as with my hand and seal this 24th day of July 1823. The Jeters and Moseley/Moselys were neighbors to the Copeland family in SC as well as in Putnam Co. GA. Daughter Christian married Theodrick Webb. Daughter Elizabeth married Edmond West. Daughter Mildred married Jesse Moseley. Daughter Sarah Married Daniel Moseley. Who was William Cook?? And how does Washington Jeter fit into this - just a friend, or is he connected in some other way? There was an oldest daughter called "Sally" b. ca 1775 - I never found any further records of her, and thought when I saw the later daughter named Sarah that the first child must have died. But is that the case? Does anyone know? Or is she the link to one of these mystery heirs? Any help or clarification would be most appreciated!

Mark, My COPELAND line in PA. has been the hardest to trace; but basically I think I have seen a least two major threads [after arriving their on American soil, that is] of COPELAND: One originating in New England, who were very prolific and spread out pretty much all over the New England states; Another who landed in VA., also very prolific and spread out all over the southern states. Then you have a line like myself who settled in eastern PA., then moved to western PA. and possibly to Ohio, Kansas, Missouri and then to Iowa, Illinois, etc. Thia latter group are not very well documented, nor are they necessarily from the same stock. However our New England and Southern brethern are better accounted for and should be easy to confirm their lineage. Just do a search for 'Copeland' on a search URL or go to the Roots or Ancestry pages and/or the LDS web pages. Prior to the expansion of the Web, there were books galore on Copelands --- most of which can be found at the New England Historical and Genealogical Society; the Library of Congress; the NYC Public Library and/or at the LDS Library in Salt Lake. 1. "Earless John" Copeland, or not?
    2. Hey, Folks Being a Quaker myself, I was excited to come across some info recently which indicated that my mother might be descended from one of the early Quaker martyrs, John Copeland, whose right ear was cut off by the Boston Taliban in 1650-something. I've never done much work on my Copeland line. Instead, I "inherited" it from a distant cousin (now deceased) about 20 years ago - and, frankly, I've always doubted it because I found a lot of other booboos in her work. Basically, it ran like this: Thomas Copeland (b. 1635, London) m. Martha Winslow Thomas Copeland (b. 1667, North Carolina) m. Gulielma Griffin Henry Copeland (b. 1699, North Carolina) m. Margaret Savage Henry Copeland (b. 1724, Isle of Wight, VA) m. Rachel Joshua Copeland (b. ca. 1749) m. Susannah Pike Samuel Thomas Copeland (b. 1773, North Carolina) m. Pharaby Cotton Susannah Copeland (b. 1812, North Carolina) m. John Black The new interpretation replaces everyone north of Joshua and runs like this: Lawrence Copeland (b. ca. 1590, York, England) m. Ruth John Copeland* (b. 1611/12, York, England) m. Sarah Ratcliffe William Copeland (b. 1650, Isle of Wight, VA) m. Christian Charles Copeland (b. ca. 1693, North Carolina) m. Mary Joshua Copeland (b. ca. 1749) m. Susannah Pike Etc. I have no documentation for either line. On one hand, I have my sloppy deceased cousin who I obviously can't query. And, on the other hand, I have a bunch of anonymous Internet sources. Can anyone vouch for either line and give me a source or two. I'd REALLY appreciate it. Thanks! Mark E. Dixon Wayne, PA
