Annie Lampman's "A Brief History of the Cooper Family" states that William Coupart came from Lombardy, France, fought in the revolutionary war, eventually settling in LeRoy, NY; and taking a second wife Margaret Chasten in 1822; and building a house that now sits on the Victor Cooper farm. She listed William Sr's and Abigail Leonard's children as: William Jr; Reuben; Thomas; Bruce; Laban Dodge; Allen; George; Andre'; Mary; Phoebe. I did a search at the LDS web site and received the following information: William Cooper son of Guilliame Coupart and Francoise DuPoint. born 24 Jan 1773 Normandy, France died 19 Jan 1851 Town of LeRay, Jefferson County, NY married 21 March 1801 to Marguerite Charton Children: Rene Cooper, b. 25 Nov 1801, d. 30 Nov 1876; William Cooper, b. 25 Nov 1801, d. 8 May 1871; Angelica Cooper, b. 11 Aug 1803, d. 4 Jun 1896; Alexander Cooper, b. 17 Apr 1806, d.13 Jan1892; Victor Cooper, b. 5 Apr 1808, d. 30 Sept 1885; Edward Cooper, b. 5 Apr 1808, d. 3 Aug 1855. Can someone clarify for me whether these are the same William Cooper or just coincidental. Conrad Dennis
