Hi, Was interested in your posting on the Cooper rootsweb....as I have Coopers in Lancaster Co. in 1860's. Does your query link to Coopers of Columbia City, Lancaster County in that time period? Thank you. mae kathleen
My oldest known Cooper ancestor is Valentine Cooper b. abt. 1745. He married a Mary ? and raised his family in Hardy co. Va, now WVA. His will is on the Hardy co. genweb page and was proven there in 1835. There were other Coopers of German descent living in Hampshire co. of which Hardy was once a part of, but so far no one can link these families together. A cousin saw Valentine's will and states that his name looked like Kieffer or Keffer definitely not Cooper so we believe he was of German descent. The Valentine Kuefer from Lancaster co Pa. b. 1745 to Vincens Kuefer seems to fit with the timeframe. This Valentine had as his baptismal sponsor a Valentine and Barbara Kuefer, so I believe Vincens could be the older Valentine's brother. Several other Kuefers are listed in these baptismal and marriage records from Lancaster co. including the Leonard and wife Margaret who had a daughter Barbara in 1733. Does anyone have any knowledge of these Kuefers? I also have another question. The Leonard Kuefer with child of Barbara, could this be the Leonard Cooper that fathered a son named Leonard Jr. who ended up in Hampshire co. VA? I believe this could be the Leonard that married a Sarah Brill . Could this be an entirely different Leonard? Anyone know anything about this? If this is the same Leonard and he had ties with the Kuefers from Lancaster co. Pa. and my Valentine is related to them, then finally the connection can be made. It is a lot of speculation and conjecture, can anyone support any of this? Thanks for your help.
