I have just returned from IL, returning Emma Shepherd's 3 inch notebook of data to her, and enjoying a wonderful visit with her. We traveled through Haywood Co., TN, but unfortunately the timing prevented meeting with Reese Moses, genealogy columnist from Brownsville and the original contributor of the "little ledger" of family birth listings of the early Bertie Co., NC Cader. We did have a nice phone conversation though. I was extremely eager to quiz her about the connection of her Brownsville protégé(actual owner of the ledger) to a Cooper line. Her answer to the question, "Which line is Carol's family from?" was:...NONE-as far as we can tell!!! (And this is after seven years of research on her part, and the ledger has been in her husband's family for three generations!) However, we proceeded on into Hopkinsville, Christian Co., KY where I did find actual record of Cader and Sarah BYARS marriage and discovered Sarah's mother was Elizabeth BLAIR.(father Stripling Byars)Also found quite a few land records which I will post seperately. I don't want to make this excessively long,(and I do have a tendency to "get all the details")but, to get to the point, I wanted to impress upon all the other folks who have also looked at the Big Picture from my previous single sighted perspective just how CLOSE the states of TN, KY, IN and IL all are right there on the western edge, as well as TN, KY, WV, VA,NC, SC,GA, AL, MS, etc. on the south and west. So, after driving these midwestern states in an afternoon,(compared to taking all day to get across Texas! No brag, just fact. <Grin>)I have a whole new perspective on how it was not that hard for our ancestors to be scattered across seven states, with one son going one way and six others, another(each). SO, that said, I will give you a rundown of what Emma has concluded, and then post the sources to go with it. First of all, from our personal interest, the John C.
